There's this other dude too. He hung with prostitutes, lepers, and outcasts for most of his life.

His name was Jesus.

Jesus should be judged by the company he kept.

NOJesus for President!

For anyone who isn't already a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat-hater, all this is just a smoke-and-mirrors routine.
Hey, at least I don't have to sit next to them.

It seems Jesus was pretty active in trying to get them to change.

Since Obama is the "agent for change", how come he failed so miserably with Wright.

I have lots of connections with other people. I just don't hang around a lot of them.

If there are racist on this forum spouting their hate. And I choose not to leave, no I am not complicant. I have, and will continue to call out the racist attacking out of ignorance.

Obama, not only did not call out Rev. Wright for his racist remarks, but continued to attend the church in silent acceptance.

See the diference?

You're sticking to the bizarre idea that Wright's two sermons in twenty years that contained the few minutes of objectionable material (that Obama was not in attendance for) somehow mean that all of his views can be superimposed on Barack Obama.

That's really a strange way to see the world.

Lets step away from these limited rants of racism, for a minute. My point, and I think you can understand this, is that attending a church where the pastor, even once articulated hate speech, and racism. Is only a marker for the bigger picture of Obamas history of self loathing and white denying life. He, himself, in his own book spoke at length about choosing to identify with the black culture, and actively deny the white history of his family.

How am I supposed to expect this kind of man to protect my interrest when they may conflict with those of the race he has bound himself to.

There's a lot more here than the few bits you've read and heard.

Check out some more Rev. Wright if you're willing to hear...

Also:

I saw some potential in Obama. I can't stand his policies, or possitions. For America I think he is the wrong direction. However, as a mixed heritage american he could have made a great statement.

He chose to polarize by identifying with only his black heritage. This makes him racially insinsitive and undesireable.

And, yona, there is a lot of literature out there on biracial identity development. Nearly all biracial/multiracial people go through developmental stages where they identify more strongly with one or another part of their heritage. It's normal and natural. Eventually, if biracial individuals continue to learn and grow in accepting, nurturing environments, they, like single race individuals, can come to a place of integration of the various cultural and racial factors in their lives.

Here's a pretty cool little powerpoint on the subject:

As always, you are a wealth of information. To take what you said as true. Then I have to say that Obama has not reached that stage in his personal growth yet. He still harbors negative racial feelings towards whites, and identifies strongly with blacks. Not the kind of divisive person we want in our most powerful possition.

Thanks for the link.

What leads you to believe that he hasn't?

His speech on race in Philadelphia would lead me to believe he's matured quite well.

Exactly what has Obama said or done for you to accuse him so?

Short and sweet. Have you read his books? In them he talks about denying his white heritage in favor of his black heritage. Having to constantly work to prove he was black enough to be with other blacks. Just that right there says that Obama is not a uniter. He is anti white and pro black. This possition would put him at the vanguard of one of our most turbulant issues.

As was stated earlier, Obama has to come to terms with his duel ethnicity. When he does, he will be able to speak for both sides and be fair. Right now he is a white hating black man. Simply because he hates the white half of himself.

I pity him, and hope he grows to love himself. Doing that and being president just woouldn't be good.

I think, yona, that the things he talked about in his books were written from the perspective of a man who's made that journey and therefore understands it better than any presidential candidate in American history.

It's not like he's developmentally arrested at age 16 or 25. What you read was honesty about a phase of his life. It takes enormous courage to achieve that kind of honesty in a memoir.

I know from being in Chicago when Obama came there he was an agitator and race baiter in the community. He is mired waist deep in the political machine in Chicago and not much has come out about it. He followed only (angry) Blacks in Chicago and it got him elected to the Senate. Now he wants everyone to believe he has seen the light LOL just a ruse. He hates whites and anyone that tells you different did not see him in action in Chicago.

I apologize for the snippy remarks. You and I may disagree, but you do have well written posts.

I agree that people should not be judged by the people they call friends.
However, it depends on what your friends are doing.

Obama probably agreed with much of what the Rev Wright said.
After all, Obama is a black man.
I grew up a white boy. I was lucky, there was no overt racism in my house. The only black folks in our area were hard working. My dad expressed nothing but respect for Mr Allen.
But it was understood I should not bring a black lady home from a date.

Anyway, the only reason I could not possibly vote for Obama is that he wants to be an elected official that feels he should infringe on the 2nd Amendment.
If they are willing to do that, then all civil rights are in danger.
Just look to Mr Clinton and the 4th Amendment.
And Bush is even worse. But as long as they leave the 2nd alone, citizens can always retrieve any rights taken away.

I've only been alive since 1970, but Obama's the best Presidential candidate I've seen in my lifetime. He's not perfect, but I'm not seeking perfection, only integrity and competence. Obama's got both.

McCain? Maybe competent... his age is going to be a factor, however.
