Wherever you come from I recommend
- Europe all countries, from UK to Russia, less Bosnia and Albania
- All Asia less Indonesia and some other little feudal states
- Americas less Venezuela, Cuba, Peru and Ecuador
Research properly the areas you wish to visit.

Africa - here you have a huge problem.
Recommend Tanzania East and Ghana West
Kenya. Postpone for 3 years if possible.
Mozambique, only around Maputo
Forget any other country in Africa.

South Africa if your lifestyle is to stay indoor after dark or if you’ll be prepared to defend yourself to the death. Make no mistake, within one week you\ll have your hands full and only 1 in 100 chance to return back to your country.

If you’ll manage to defeat the criminals, you will be obliged to pay for their hospital bills. If you kill the criminals, the police WILL arrest you for defending yourself. You will have 1% chance of getting away, however only if the police team responding will be white or mixed. This is the only way of being awarded with a proper report which will protect your actions in the court of law.

Pray for a black judge, because whites are dummies.

Don’t bet on 1%, less and less whites are in the SA police force and they are usually dispatched to respond only to some of the most violent attacks. Maybe to get them all killed and get rid of whites in the SAP or in recognition for their bravery.

Women be aware, 90% chances of being raped after dark.
80% chances to be both raped and robbed.
15% chances to be raped and killed.
10% chances of being killed without being raped or robbed
Men 70% chances being robbed after dark
10% chances of being both robbed and killed
5% chances of being killed without being robbed

Take note, your color will not save you.

Welcome to South Africa, the temporary home of the most retarded safety and security minister ever to walk on planet Earth.

We were contemplating visiting capetown with family but this if true will change our mind. Are these statistics real? which governments have issued travel warnings to capetown?

Adnan - relax it all seems bad in stats but if you go to cape town trust me i am 99% sure nothing will happen to you. Just stick to white area's and use common sense.. the cape is the safest bet for visiting SA..
I have had 1000x more crime happen to me in London UK than in Cape Town ever..

5 basic survival rules:
1. Stick to white areas
2. Inside after dark
3. Do not carry money and valuables
4. Do not argue, give them what they want and go
5. Avoid table top, is where most crimes are happening in Cape over 1000 tourists being abused in the past 2 months. Safe Cape he?

It's so simple. It's merely a question of black and white. Avoid the black, and stick to the white. Any other questions?

Having lived for at least 25 solid years in cape town.. and 8 years all over the world.. 3 of which was in london..

only 3 things ever happend to me in CAPE TOWN over 25 years.
1 house break in
1 items stolen from car
1 a gunshot in my general direction

in LONDON however (wealthy suburb in £500mill+ flat) in 3 years
2 house break in's (35 break ins within my area in 1 month)
1 mugged by gang
2 guns pointed at me
3 being stoned by kids (voilently)
1 attacked by group of kids with knives
3 car smashed while parked (front window smashed)
1 letterboxes in flat all destroyed
1 fire set by kids to burn down building
5 car scratched by passing motorbikes
and I have been put in hospital for a few of these. all this just going to work and back.
No bad areas or going out to dodgy areas.

SOO I didnt find London any safer..
In Cape Town - I know what areas to avoid.
I always lock up and park in a safe place.
Dont carry or show valuables or wealth.
I always carry protection when going to unsafe areas. My house is monitored by ADT security.
I drive everywhere.

In London - You cant protect yourself. If you do - YOU will go to jail - not your attacker.
You cant have a gun, knife, tear gas, taser or anything to self protect - NOTHING.
There is no such thing as armed response for houses in general.
and you never know when catching the bus, tube, whatever WHAT group of kids is going to attack you next. You cant SPOT the crime there.

So I prefer knowing the enemy as much as SA crime is overall worse..

So what you are saying is that in SA it's easier to spot the potential perp because he's black. Thank you.

Another thing: Even though in your case you encountered more crime in Britain, there are two factors you did not include in your balance sheet, and that tends to distort the picture ever so slightly in London's 'favour':

1. When was the time you spent in London? Was it the most recent? Then you missed out on some of the 'better' times in Cape Town, crime-wise. Because the black terror and crime is escalating from year to year.

2. The terror and crime in black-ruled SA is far more state-tolerated and state-induced than in Britain, and consequently killers and robbers are far more arrogant and DEADLY. So many more attacks end up with the victim shot or knifed to death. Percentage-wise, far more here, even in Cape Town, than in London.

Ya its true how often do you walk past a white in cape town and get killed.. ermm - more chance of winning the lottery..[[implying...:-)..]]

To answer your Q - I spend 6 months in SA during summer and the other 6 months (during winter) somewhere else in the world. Its a bit more complicated than that - but that kinda sums it up.

So all my stuff is recent!(That I am quoting on)

I am not suggesting SA is safe by any means.. Its just that everyone thinks UK is sooo safe.. its not.. and its mostly kids from 12 to 18 - unreal!
They operate above the law.. The one crowd that got busted stealing all our IT gear from our offices had been caught something like 57 times before - but they go to jail for a few days/weeks and they are out again.. its mad. I had actually left that off my list :)

My friends visited SA and had to be escorted by armed guards everywhere they went. SA has 50 murders a day. The SA government has quit releasing crime statistics because they were scaring tourists off.
If you have had 1000 crimes commited against you in London you must have lived there for 10,000 years!

Also "Wary Traveler" I am sure once you have personally lived in both places you might think differently.
You dont really need armed guards to visit SA - thats over the top.. rather dont go then.
Also I promise you what I say about london is the truth. I have no reason to make london look bad. what for. its SA that pisses me off..
However if you still dont believe me - i dont care as this forum is just about people nit picking - some with brains other without..

Not really.. for £300 you get a piehole in london central - unless its £450+ dont expect anything much.. all i got was about 90sq meters for that price.. and a nice view of errr more flats.. and a bit of the river thames..
also you can pay a morgage as "Interest Only" which makes it easily affordable.. around £1700 per month.. so any fairly good salary with two people can do that..
see :))
