Women's rights are secondary in Afghanistan

Trafficked across the border from Pakistan with her 3-year-old son, Rukhma was handed to an Afghan who raped and abused her, then beat the toddler to death as she watched helplessly.

People write about this over and over but is anything done about it? NO! of course not because you would be violating the Muslim religions liberties for bashing in a womans teeth and cutting off her ears and nose. It is truly surprising that they just didnt bury her up to her knees and stone her outright like they do in Iran. The ACLU would be the first to step up and protect these animals from prosecution. Do not try and sugarcoat this religion, the moderates only take what they want to hear from the Koran making it palatable to the west.
The real agenda of the Muslim religion is world domination and forcing Islam upon the infidels or death. Anything else is just a flat out lie.........

The people in Afghanistan are F'cked, and I don't give a rats @ss what anybody has to say about it. I do feel for these women, but there's nothing I can do for them. I'm American born & raised and we have our own issues to take care of right here in the US. Sorry, that's just how it is.

I have to agree with The nerve. That is their culture, just don't bring any of them over to our country, or this woman might shoot an Afghanistan man at the first hint of aggression. Although I know it has taken years for the United States - many of the States to finally do something about domestic violence here, but in the extreme case of the Muslim religion, it does not and will not be accepted behavior in this country. We aren't there to change their culture and whether we approve or not, it is not our business, until and unless they were to bring that crap to the United States, then they will be subject to what any other american citizen (man) would be, jail or a wooden box! That is what makes us different! And that will keep us different.

Every woman should do something for her gender.

Sorry to differ with you. The males should be punished. The women did not have any liberty to go against their males.

I don't know you. I stand by what I say. Sometimes the only way for a woman to get away from that kind of abuse is to strike when the abuser is asleep. Have you ever seen the movie "The Burning Bed" ?
I rest my case.

If you rest your case, there is nothing to say for me.
Yes, I've seen the movie, "The Burning Bed".
Even then, I say it is not the correct solution.
But, since you rest your case, what's the use!

Look, not really sure where you're from, but the way I was raised here in America was to never allow a man to put his hands on you in anger. I stand by that, and I taught both of my kids that. A man should never hit a woman or treat them as if they were dirt. Well, I can say I'm glad to be an American.

Hey Listen! 90% of the women in the world live in the 3rd world. Guess what, in the 3rd world, women for the most part are nothing more than "chattel," i.e., property of males. That is not going to change anytime soon, no matter how much noise "Western Women" make while shopping for Prada and discussing their sex lives with their friends at lunch.

Get over it and get use to it. It is NOT going to change - EVER.

When America was being settled, women had very little rights. Out West, when first being settled, the men ordered Mail Order Brides, and owned them. Over time, a mere 200+ years, things have changed and today we have a woman running for the highest office in the land! The Middle East has been this way for not 200 years but 2000 years and more! They are so far behind in almost everything, which I attribute to their religiuos beliefs, that it's silly. Were it not for the oil, these people would still be living in caves. Sorry but the word primative comes to mind.

The Afghanis are not all that different from the US. I believe women in the US didn't have the right to vote until 1920. Adultery is still a crime in most states. Just watch an episode of cops to see how much domestic violence is on going. More people are murdered per capita right here in the good ole US than any other nation. I betcha Americans watch more porn than any other nation (thanks internet). So yeah I bet there are some bad things that happen to women in Afghanistan but maybe you should look in the mirror before you go pointing fingers.

BTW she probably deserved it

I think we have enough problems here in the U.S. without worrying about the women in Afghanistan, who more than likely, brought gave birth to those b******s that attacked this country on 9-11

American:

The b****s who attacked this country on 9-11 were from Saudi Arabia.

I've been to Afghanistan twice in the last three years. I think that the problem is (one of the problems) that although they have a constitution that outlaws a lot of this domestic violence and sets a minimum age for marriage (16) there are no enforcement provisions. The Supreme Court is filled with religious mullahs who have no formalized education in the law. As a member of the international community if we see atrocities being committed we have a moral obligation to respond. We should have been there as soon as the Taliban started acting like barbarians instead of waiting until after 9-11.

check out stories and photos of these little girls and tell me that we should give up hope.
