Boat carrying Syrian refugees lands in southern Italy August 09, 2012 03:23 PM

ROME: A fishing boat carrying 157 people, including 124 Syrians fleeing escalating violence in their country, was intercepted close to the southern Italian coast and towed to the port of Crotone late on Wednesday, police said.

Also on board were 30 Afghans and three Turks, two of whom were arrested on suspicion of people smuggling. All were in good health and were transferred on Thursday to an immigration centre in the nearby Calabrian city of Isola Capo Rizzuto.

The refugees included more than 30 women and 40 children.

"We're still trying to determine where the boat departed from, but normally the ones that reach Crotone come from Greece," said a spokesman for the local prefect.

"So far, no one has requested asylum," he added. According to Italian law, if asylum is not granted, illegal immigrants must be repatriated.

The 17-month uprising against President Bashar Assad's rule in Syria has created a refugee crisis in Turkey and other neighbouring countries.

More than 2,000 Syrians fleeing the conflict have reached Turkey in the past two days, bringing the total number who have sought refuge there to more than 50,000, Turkish authorities said on Thursday.

Every year hundreds of boats carrying immigrants seeking work in continental Europe arrive on the southern Italian coast during the summer. Most of them come from North Africa or the Balkans.

- Lachmadjun with pine nuts at any port in the Anatolya coast.

One ticket?

Well, you see TRD, this is the added value of reading the messages on this thread ... I learn a lot..!!

This evening after the fast is over, I'll talk to Abbas.
....... two tickets to watch the Dolphins and also two for Tampa entertainment ..
He can throw the costs into the UNESCO budget ...

... and now I'm gonna be obsessed with the idea 'who Mursi will be taking along with him'.
I'll come up with something..

White House spokesman Jay Carney sought to reassure Israel on Friday when he said in a press briefing that the U.S. has real-time information on the Iranian nuclear program.

“We have ‘eyes’ inside the nuclear facilities and we will know in real time when and if Iran decides to cross the threshold and develop nuclear weapons,” Carney said, according to a report by Channel 10 News.

Carney’s remarks were made in response to recent assessments in Israel, especially those of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, according to which the Americans understand that the Iranian threat is becoming an increased concern.

“The president remains committed to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons,” he was quoted as having said.

“We are leading an international move to enforce the sanctions, which even the president of Iran has called the most severe sanctions ever imposed on a country,” Carney continued.“Hardly a week goes by in which we do not worsen the sanctions.”

He reiterated that Israel and the U.S. are coordinated on the Iranian nuclear issue, saying,“We share Israel’s concerns. That’s why we are directing this concentrated and unprecedented effort to cause the regime in Tehran to change its behavior.”

A report in Ha'aretz on Thursday, citing American officials, said that a new U.S. report indicates that Iran has made a great deal of progress in its nuclear program in recent months.

According to the report, President Barack Obama has seen the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report, prepared by U.S. government intelligence groups.

The United States Congress recently passed a new package of sanctions against Iran. The sanctions aim to punish banks, insurance companies and shippers that help Tehran sell its oil.

A day earlier, President Barack Obama announced U.S. sanctions against foreign banks that help Iran sell its oil, specifically citing China's Bank of Kunlun and an Iraqi bank.

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld told Fox News this week that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is totally correct that sanctions will not stop Iran’s drive for nuclear capability, and Israel would not have to advise the United States of any plans to attack Iran.

“I think the prime minister of Israel, Netanyahu, is probably correct. Their intelligence on Iran is excellent. Sanctions tend not to work very well over a long period of time, and they do have the effect, tending to damage and hurt the people, as opposed to the governments,” said the former Cabinet officer in the Bush administration.

The Hamas got busted...

Izz ad din al Qassam, the terrorist assassin savage branch of the Palestinian political party Hamas ... collaborated with those 'freedom fighters' that shot the Egyptians asses by the international border.

Mursi was brought up to speed on this one ... and my guess is he wants the heads of the responsible supporters of the attack pickled on a jar...

The fact that the attackers were shot, doesn't seem to appease Mursi.

Khaled Mashall will have to name a few victims for decapitation.....

.... otherwise, how are the troops going to learn not to fckk around with the Egyptians...

No, it's true...the Persians hired ADT to do their security system so they can monitor and adjust it from anywhere on their Galaxy phones. Now, they can even adjust the air conditioning from home. Let's just hope they don't get confused and accidentally over-refine their uranium while trying to start the roast in the oven.(for an additional $25/month, they could have gotten the enhanced privacy option but they're putting all their money where their mouths are "you can't stop us-wise")

Doesn't he still have some remnants of the former regime laying around in a jail somewhere? Why not just dress them up in Hamas costumes and literally kill two birds with one stone?
