Spirit Airlines will surely benefit from a recovering Haiti economy and looking ahead opportunistically to the shimmering hope of increased tourism.
What will be their financial profit results to the cent?
Because of our economic deplorable condition we have to play, sing and dance with their exploiting drum beat.
Would that bring dramatic growth in tourism arrivals?
What are their thoughts on public safety?
Personally I call for an HPA that will stood for the “Haiti People’s Airline”.
that will offer us what we want: comfort, convenience, value, and something more, that friendly Haitian pretty Stewardess faces that comes from the Islands, and from the heart.
Let us spread our own wings…
I say thanks! But no thanks…

Welcome SPIRIT !!!! Hope you can treat us better, with decency. Hope you can keep prices low, hope you can keep them for long

GOOD NEWS: AMerican has already announced a reduction in fares. HAahahahaha

How's that for competition!?

WOW! Fun and Sun in the lush paradise that is Haiti!!!!

C'mon, the country is a cesspool, the unflushed toilet of the caribbean. The people are lazy, uncaring ingrates, soulless criminals that polutte the world with their emigrants. they come here and bring their kind of non-work ethic and disdain for education. Please, use the lower fares to go back! and stay!!!!

I must say in contrast that I am impressed by the calm you display after your initial comment.

Your comment just seemed out of place.
The article speaks of the advent of a new airline service to Haiti, no one mentioned that it was a new tourist destination, or no one invited anyone in anyway. We know and are aware that we are VERY MUCH behind. BUT !!! BUT !!! There is a very DIRE need for more airlines and flights to the nation.
Trust me, I am sure the Spirit folks didn't just "choose" Haiti as a prime destination.

Money talks, BS walks. They are smart, they know they will make money, even is it's with the tens of thousands of those of us that do go back home, however bad home is.

For a minute there I thought you were describing your brain. What you wrote gave us a glimpse at what's inside of your head. What you have in there is the sh*t your media put out there. You’re only spitting it in this forum. If you really traveled to Haiti, you're like those who go there just to hunt for open sewers so that they can have something to write about.

Last year (2005) alone, despite the political turmoil, Haiti cordially received 300,000 tourists. Those who actually know where to go have left good reviews... just like the tourists who come here know that they will never set foot on some areas of the US of A.

Haiti is not a cesspool or the un-flushed toilet of the Caribbean. We have known turmoil after turmoil and unrests after unrests; the adverse affect on the country is clear. Until recently, Haiti was indeed the paradise of the Caribbean.

And yeah, another fact: you are an ignorant and it blindly shows.

Those kind of idiots always tick me off. They just love to jump on the bandwagon of hate, propaganda, and prejudice to put haitians down.

They have no clue, and deserve to be put in their place

well, you all obviously have pride in your country, a sentiment that I, a xenophobic arrogant ass, cannot fault. Yes, I believe Haiti's problems stem from the U.S. meddling in domestic affairs, and the subsequent corruption, but that is history and not an excuse for continued economic axphixiation. The truth is, the corruption continues. Aristide had a incredible opportunity, a clean slate, foreign aid and patient banks, but he blew it as well, falling to the temptation of self enrichment. There is little in the way of natural resources, manufacturing capacity and public safety that encourages aeasy solution. it will take hard work, investment and a true commitment for improving the lives of the population, it is not an enviable task. Lack of oil and gas reduces the population to denude the forests for charcoal. lack of security prevents the development of tourism dollars, with the exception of insulated resorts, which are of little benefit for the people. Haiti needs more than anything to build a professional and middle class. perhaps moves like Spirits will help create employment opportunities.

I appreciate the effort you made to be candid in this post. I believe this is the kind of analysis that most of us Haitians in this forum want to read and ponder over.

Cmo, " Keep in mind that you will read comments from all different points of views and share of idiots. To be fair! everyone has the right to chose in his person, the one to lead haiti. As noted in the pass, that many of the poor of haiti still hold trust and faith in aristid and very different reasons that we may have. However! 99% of people in this comment forum are at this time living or held up in the usa and canada. We do not look at aristide as our savoir or the one to save us from the life we are living. I anyone still holds hope that aristide is the man for the job, I think we are all ready to respect theire chose, however! we would like to hear the reasons behind it, "Is it for personal reasons? "Is it that the pass has proven that aristide is the one to lead haiti? During Aristide time in power, I was in haiti both times and it was hell, not only for me but also the poor. So why would anyone want to return to that same hell again? I am sure that many feel the same way about Preval but must say in his first term, at least there was peace on the island. Perhaps everyone needs to give preval a little more time and let him show his true colours, its not like we have someone else that has proven himself before. The major problem haiti is seeing right now is having the UN on the grounds and Preval letting the usa do his job. I think Preval needs to take action and prove to his people that he is the man for the job.. On that note! The very best to you also in the new year and look forward to reading your comments in the new year.

I am impressed by the responses that appear to be from Haitians in this Commentary.
They are of a far higher caliber and level of tolerance and understanding than the majority of those from my fellow Americans.
In general I am usually shamed and embarrassed by American's ignorance, hate, racism and intolerant idiocy.
My respect and admiration to you, as well as my hopes for a safer, healthier and more prosperous Haiti in the new millenium.
I can only hope that the vicious commentary so often read in these forums is just cowardly anonymous venting and not the norm of our fine citizens.

Cmo, thanks for the wishes, and same to you for the new year. May you and your family find peace, health and prosperity.
As to the guys comment, I think he got caught in the spur of the moment and just blurted out something to sound "cool".
Our general reaction spoke for itself and spoke volumes...

I think we can forgive, to the extent that he takes 'our corrections and rectifications' and spread the good word; because for too long we have been bad-mouthed and criticized, without knowing the root causes of our ills. At the same time, we got to admit OUR faults as well...

However, when it comes from a stranger, it sounds particularly bad, and really strikes a sensitive cord.

I think we should forgive, as I will be the 1st to admit I have not always said nice things about AMericans, which by the way i DO respect.

And to the last 'American' poster/comment, I appreciate your comment as well.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Sagittarius

You're in a strange mood, Sagittarius. You're feeling impatient and cross, and nothing is quite right. No wonder, with Mercury and Mars retrograde, under a Full Moon lunar eclipse! But is it necessary to be quite so contrary, so determined to do the opposite of what's expected of you? Try to sort out the problem sooner rather than later, then do something energetic and therapeutic so you can burn off your nervous energy. Then you're all set for a great New Year's Eve!
