well, north korea is instrument of comunist china

although i wasn't old enough to have memories of the korean conflict, as soon as i read of it, i realized it was a mistake

we should never have divided the country, it belongs to the communist bloc, just like vietnam belonged to it and we never should've attempted to take over were the french failed

korea is starving and here in california there's a store selling a korean freeze dried noodle product, wholesale!

perhaps if soutn korean company sold it's product to north korea?

korea yakult co. ltd is selling to america while it's relatives in the north starve

you , know, the more i find out about the world, the less i want to participate in it, and the more i want to take over

Shelly is apparently still of the mind that the US always does what is best for the people. How exactly did we stop the commies by splitting korea? I recall more countries declared themselves communist after the korean war than before. We never started a war with the biggest communist country and it saw its errors, meanwhile the second biggest communist country is now one o four biggest trade partners. Good work Shelly it must be tough posting from all the way back there in the 60's.

You really need a pair of specs or need to learn how to read on a message board. Maybe the "quotation marks" are just too small for you to see or perhaps you don't know what they stand for, "Frank". I made no statements about splitting countries but I see what side you are on. Incredible, but not a shock coming from you. I would say what the US has done, thus far, regarding communists has been for the Greater good of the world. What communist country feeds their people. Get back to me when you figure it out.

Shelly, you clearly made refrence to splitting the country. By incorporating the quoeted material in your statement you are clearly making fun of those that believe the country should not have been splitted. Many people worldwide would say that virtually nothing the US has done since WW2 has been for the good of the world, particularly the wasted resources and misguided principles of the fight on terrorrism. Additionaly, communist countries are the best at feeding their people, particularly in times of disaster. What they are not good at, and what differentiates them from america, is that their citizens cannot criticize their government or offer alternatives for the stated motives. This does not always go toward the detriment of the people, Cuba has a much higher literacy rate than the US. Once again, Shelly, you have offered nothing substantive in your post and again fall back to what you "would say" (note the quotation marks).

Marxism is dead. Socialism is dying. Flavors of Fascism -- such as in N. Korea -- are failing wholesale. Anyone that believes that China is still a "communist" country needs to re-read the Manifesto. Nothing can stop global capitalism because countries can't afford not to join. Resistance is futile.

I won't argue with that, but it's not due to anything the US did, it is due to the practice of communism in reality. People are corrupt and will corrupt the system for personal profit. The reason capitalism works is because corruption is built into it. My simple point is that we wasted a whole lot of lives for a pointless little penninsula that will end up capitalist anyway regardless of what we had done. Additionally, had we not forced them into a situation where they had to be very strongly anti-american, militarizing South Korea against them, they may have already converted and become an ally by now due to market forces, instead of ramping up the hostilities.

Feeding their people? George, you need to read from a more diverse library than the leftist crap that old Unc. Trotsky has been feeding you. How do you account for the massive starvation in 1960s China from Mao's failed industro-agriculture experiments? Or what's happening in North Korea RIGHT NOW ???

Also, I just did a quick google on cuba's literacy rate to confirm another unbelievable statement you made. Sure enough, it is not higher than the US -- perhaps on par or a percent lower. Keep your facts straight.

haha, I said that communists are better at feeding their people, particularly in didsasters, and I stand by it. Starvation is something that no society has defeated entirely, ask the millions in the US that starve to death every year. Famine itself is felt just as feircly by the capitalist countries as the communists, ask about th Dustbowl in the US. Communist countries are simply more willing to support the extremely poor thereby preventing the high rates of starvation seen on a regular basis in countries similarly developed. As far as literacy rates go, Cuba is at about 97 percent, according to the UN in 2004, and the US hasn't ever done an accurate study, Their most recent survey, in 1994, said 97% literacy, but 20% of whom couldn't read enough to fill out a form or read a book, hardly literate. That puts the US at about 80%, generously. So yes, the literacy rates in Cuba are better than those in the US.

I am not sure about a recount however, many larger news papers that does NOT like President Bush did in fact do an indepth study on recount etc and what may have happened, they found nothing that would say it was rigged....Believe me if the New York Times can't find it, it did not happen!! Or maybe it did, I was told that Kerry is still looking for lost ballots and he may have found a few in Al Gores closet..

George,
What a fool I've been -- I'm packing my bags for Cuba tomorrow! Can't wait to smoke me one of those fine cigars with Fidel, and read along in the Havana Times (with all my fellow literate Cubans) about how the residents keep piling on to make-shift rafts to cross the Gulf of Mexico to where the jobs are.

What are you guys smoking down there in Tempe? It beats anything we have here in California.

ExPat- Cool, you'll probably fit in, what with the not listening to anyone else thing they have going on in Cuba. I simply said that communist countries can sometimes do things better due to their organization, reflected by, among other examples, a higher literacy rate in Cuba. I would never dream of saying Cuba has a better standard of life than america, as evidenced by our diabetes and obesity rates. Congratulations on your trip, I understand Havana is lovely.

You mean you won't be joining me?:-(

Not sure what you meant by "not listening to anyone else thing they have going on in Cuba". Must be my illiteracy kicking in,'cause I'm not familiar with that complex and ambivalent grammar you're using.

Cheers~!
