Is Oprah's South African School Too Strict?
She's back in Africa. Building another school. But even as she was inaugurating her school for boys and girls in a remote town in South Africa, Oprah Winfrey found herself facing the first big test of her ...

In regards to Oprah's new school God bless her for starting it. And, I pray she'll continue to use her wealth and influence and open up some leadership schools in America.

Schools in the US could use discipline like this!

Since when are schools NOT supposed to be strict? We aren't talking about adults here, we are talking about children and they haven't earned rights yet. I say we put Oprah in charge of the American school system as well.

Oprah is a very giving lady, she is seeing fit her school in Africa is being run with love and guidance, whether is is strict or not. the boys and girls need this if they will ever make it in society.

Really?
Perhaps the young ladies should each be given a large suite of rooms and the freedom to pursue a Montessori sort of curriculum? Or, better yet, maybe they should be "un-schooled" and allowed to pursue whatever caprice occupies them in the moment. Cell phones? On all the time and used during lectures. Visitation? Any time, twenty-four/seven. And anyone. No restrictions should be the rule at Oprah's leadership academy. In fact, maybe the students should just sort of wander about, seeking "learning opportunities" or just enlightening experiences of any variety. If that's true then anyone can attend Oprah's school. The whole nation of South Africa can wander through at any given point in time to experience the educational vibe and just ... sorta ... be. Ya know, man? |

I know that we need schools like hers in the US too. I think that Oprah is using her money for good and there needs to be more people just like her. I hope that she keeps going and make the world a better place.

I salute her for this. Comming all the way from the US ans starting up a school in SOuth Africa. Mind you we have Millionaires in SOuth Africa and they would rather spend their money in buying soccer clubs and driving fancy cars.

I think that her strict rules are great. Maybe if we had more stricter rules in the US, our kids would be further advanced. Kids today have too many distractions and want to be pacified. She has high standards and those who don't want to take advantage of this opportunity should leave and allow another young lady to enjoy the opportunity of a life time.

Schools in most countries are more strict than the United States. And you see where our educational system is going.
Our schools are run by the students, parents and scared administrators. They are so afraid of negative attention or getting sued that they turn their back to so much of the disgust that goes on. Way to go, Oprah! |

Education is the main solution to Africa's problems. This woman has once again displayed great compassion, wisdom and understanding.
To all those that send us food aid, im sorry but screw you! |

If America's schools were this strict, then our education system would not be in the dumps. I say Oprah needs to take over the schools here.
