Full story: TwinCities.com

In this case, then, you'd like to protect "children and families" from the freedom? Am I following your utterly off-topic post?

All wry humor aside, it astonishes me how much Dick Cheney wants to assert his world view now that he's out of office. The guy regarded his daughter's "orientation" as off-limits even when discussing gay rights as a campaign issue in '04, resentfully snapping back at the obvious observation that his party's platform was at odds with even his own family life. Every topic was off-limits back then, when he was in a position to lead. Now that he's out of office he'll shoot his mouth off first and ask questions later.

He speaks his opinion-right or wrong. That is good for all of us americans.

Obama blames all his problems on the Bush Admin instead of taking some responsibility for his failed socialism. But you think that Cheney better not dare speak out about Obama.....

Vice Presidents are supposed to stay in the background and keep quiet. Don't you know that? Don't you remember how Al Gore never said a word, just stood around silently, earning him the title of "Wooden Man"?

Candidates families should never be brought into the debate. Families are supposed to be off limits...well, except for Governor Palin's.

Finally, one thing I agree with Cheney on. Too bad the party he represents & so strongly supports doesn't agree with him, and would prefer to deny his daughter the very rights that Cheney says he thinks she deserves. If he really felt that "freedom is for everyone" and that gay people should be allowed to marry, he should have been pushing his party to accept that (for libertarian/small gov't reasons, if for no other).

Agreed-

Let the voters decide with as they did in California and they voted "no" to protect kids and families.

How exactly does forbidding same sex couples from marrying "protect" kids and families?

Yeah encouraging monogamous relationships is so damaging to heterosexual families. </sarcasm>

Maybe I missed something, but what does Dick Cheney's gay marriage views have to do with Barack Obama? To my knowledge, Obama has not spoken out on gay marriage - he leans slightly left on abortion, but these two, abortion and gay marriage, are not the same topic.

Moreover, the Religious Right voted against gay marriage in the 2004 Bush Election, remember? So once again, you're talking about Obama because ...

I'm not sure I understand this post. Cheney said the States should decide gay marriage, even though he is for it. When did protecting kids and families enter into this?

The entertainment value of his total descent into madness is so riveting to watch. I feel like a ghoul, but I can't stop watching it. Like they say, you can get through a day without sex, but can you get through a day without a rationalization. He has a big rationalization fantasy life going on. Thanks Dicky boy for the crazy ride.

Although I agree with you, gay marriage should be banned, other states did not agree with California. If you'll recall, Iowa, Vermont, and Massachusetts decided to allow gay marriage. So, how exactly our kids and families protected?
