Except this year is different. Concacaf has reformatted to copy Uefa CL, so MLS is now a valid qualifying mechanism.
No longer is the post season what counts in US soccer, because now the post-season is next season.

I lived in Europe for 11 years in Italy England, and Spain. I find MLS as exciting as the leagues in these country. The quality of play is rising very quickly. Although I'm a huge fan of the English Premiere League - I'm a bigger fan of MLS as it's my countriy's league. I believe that MLS will be at the same level as these European leagues in the near future. I hope as soon as the league has fully expended there will be a religation system with United Soccer League (USL) which is a league in the U.S. which doesn't get nearly enough attention.

I turn Steve Cohen off whenever I see him in the air because he clearly doesn't want MLS to succeed. MLS will succeed because of it's growing fan base. As the fan base grows - so will the number of world class players in the league. MLS has now developed an outstanding youth development system and the players are coming to fruition, The quality of native U.S. players continue to grow but because the sport is global - having top international players will add to the glamour of the league.
