I have been a Germany fan for years. Third in the last World Cup, second in Euro, now hopefully first in the next WC.

EEEEENNNGGLLANNDD!!

I take it you mean who will win? It will take place in South Africa(or is that 2014?) so the heat might be a factor, I would say Argentina are high favourites.

But I still going for England.

England didn't even qualify for the European Cup, do you really think they can WIN the World Cup? Anything could happen, I guess. I'm predicting Argentina and Spain will be favourites, with Spain coming off that Euro win. Argentina is always a good team. Like you said the heat will really cause some teams to suffer. I'm rooting for Germany so they'll be facing the same problem as England and most other European teams as far as climate goes.

Argentina, I reckon. The youngsters they have coming through are already looking good and Lionel Messi is phenominal.
England's chances? With only the top team in the group guaranteed qualification it's going to be hard to get to South Africa. I'll just be glad if they make it.

I think I'm right in saying that a European country has never won the World Cup outside Europe.

France didn't qualify for world cup 1994.two years later they were in euro 96 semi final and winner of 98.

So i don't see why england cannot have a shot at victory in 2010

Stranger things have happened, for sure. Look at the emergence of Turkey and what about Greece winning Euro 2004. However, I've heard (and seen) so much BS as far as the English national team's concerned. Every time we qualify for a major tournament there's a media frenzy saying we're going to win it and, apart from 1990 where we were actually the best team out of the four semi-finalists, we come up against a good side in the QF and go out - usually on poxy penalties. The annoying thing is we have the players but seem unable to gel them into a team that can match the best. I hope I'm wrong and that they fulfil their potential this campaign but I'll just be glad if they make the plane to South Africa.

Yeah, anything could happen. Half of the game is just luck and getting drawn to play against the right teams anyway. Germany was very lucky in Euro because they didn't meet any of the usual powerhouses until the final, except for Portugal maybe. The thing is that once you get down to the final four teams, they are usually all so evenly matched on such a high level that it just takes a little luck on one side and a little mistake on the other to get into the final. Generally at the big matches it could really go either way. It's impossible to predict what will happen, and it's also impossible to predict how the teams will play, and whether England will go into this tournament playing mediocre or playing really well. Turkey played a lot better than anyone imagined, and Germany, in some games, played a lot worse. Who knows what will happen.

Jamie Carragher has just said in his book that he wasn't as motivated playing for England as he is for Liverpool. That begs the question whether he's on his own with this view or others in the England locker room feel the same way. If it turns out that a number of England 'stars' go through the motions for the Three Lions it would go some way to explain a few atrocious displays in recent years.

Think about it: Not many teams that match up with them player for player.

They can have all the talent in the world but football's a team game and if they play as individuals rather than a team then they're going to come unstuck (as they invariably do sometimes).

Rebecca, you are right in most of your statement, but football is not a game of luck. Any team can win on the day, however, and now I understand you were meaning luck of who you play against.

And of course England have a chance of winning the World Cup. Heck, with Aussie now qualifying from the Asian group, New Zealand now have a good chance of making it to WC, that is when they win the Oceania section, they have to play 5th of South America so that is the real test.

The thing about it being a team game is generally, the England players are reat team players for their club, they just don't go together. Owen and Rooney are both strikers that idk, want the goal and would always shoot before sliding it to their partner, which is why they don't really work together. Where Heskey and Owen were a good pair, but that leaves out Rooney, they try Rooney and Defoe, leaving out Owen and not even having tried Crouch and the rest, and this sort of thing is the problem England have. They need more friendlies to get a good team sorted before WC.
While each player would be great in most club teams, all together as one they just havn't been able to fit. Maybe Carrager would change his mind if they won the World Cup, eh?

Reiterating the point that football's a team game, the late, great (and should've been knighted) Brian Clough put together a team at Nottingham Forest that won the European Champions' Cup - TWICE! However, as indivuals they weren't a patch on some of the other players on show at the time

I wouldn't call Brazil a no winner for sure.

It isn't my favorite but it's the same shot at winning than Italy,Germany,Argentina or France.

England,Portugal,Netherlands will also hope for glory.
