In the last year or so, I've read about a thousand comments from posters throughout the world who claim Lionel Messi is the best player that ever graced a football field. There were already indications that he wasn't, but today, at the America Cup, it's confirmed, for no footbal player of those in the running for such honour, namely to be called the greatest football player who ever lived, could fail to take their national team through the quarter finals of the America's Cup without having also won at least a World Cup for the same national team. In fact, Messi is many things, but not the world's greatest footballer ever. Here what he is. He is the world's best player, today and has been foe the lest three years. He's the best player who ever played for Barcelona for more than one season. He's the best scorer in this tournament, and the best scorer in that League, at Club level, but what he's not is what thousands of his ill informed fans say he is, the world's best player, ever. That honour goes to go to Pele. And if Pele had never exosted, then it would be Diego Maradona.
