Obama's geopolitical demarche in Russia's backyard is moving ahead nicely -- for the present

Full story: onlinejournal.com

In Ukraine, opinion polls reveal something quite remarkable. “If we were to fantasise, and pretend that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin would run for the post of Ukrainian president, then, according to opinion poll results, he would win right off,” says Alexei Lyashenko, an analyst at Kiev’s Research & Branding (R&B) polling institute. “His only serious competitor would be Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.” This is not new according to Lyashenko. Putin’s rating was over 50 percent even during the 2004 “Orange Revolution.” Opinion poll results published in May indicate that 58 percent of Ukrainians have a positive attitude toward Putin, and 56 percent approve of Medvedev. The pro-Russian head of the opposition Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych currently enjoys a 30 percent approval rating, and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko 15 percent. A shade more than 5 percent of Ukrainians would vote for the anti-Russian President Viktor Yushchenko in the upcoming elections in January of 2010.

Not at all diaspora boys....You just don't want to admit that the majority of Ukrainians do not hate Russians like the Extremist Canadian diaspora do... and as Ukraine has been part of Russia's history since the beginning and was an important part of Russia for hundreds of years, as well as many Ukrainians and Russians intermarried with each other... means that many Ukrainians do not hate Russians and dont' want their lives and the lives of their relatives messed up by what North American, Canadians and Americans want, which doesn't necessary jibe with what Ukrainians want...

And I'll bet many are just simply turned off to the hatred and propoganda preached by the west...

Hell Topix friends,

"They have a shrinking population base, they have a withering economy, they have a banking sector and structure that is not likely to be able to withstand the next 15 years, they're in a situation where the world is changing before them and they're clinging to something in the past that is not sustainable," Biden said in the interview.

Well, that's the truth and that's why it hit a raw nerve.

Putinists need to accept reality that Russia's imperial days are on the wain---but psychopathic Putin will continue to treat Russians and Russia as his personal disposable and expendable imperial possessions.

That's exactly the vibes I feel from Ukraine.

The 'real' Ukrainians, I mean those who actually live in Ukraine as opposed to the neo-fascist living in North America, don't want a split with Russia at all.

The Orange Revolution promised so much with a rapprochement with the West and delivered so little, that most Ukrainians are turning their back to the notoion of 'belonging to the West' and much prefer the security provided by an alliance with brother country Russia.

Ukrainians have also become a lot wiser since Yushchenko came to power and realised that their country will never be of any real interest to the West, but just an instrument to use to irritate Russia.

I suppose that once Putin has finished knocking the Russian economy into shape, he should run for elections in Ukraine where everything is still to do!! LOL

At last, someone beside Stef to speak for all REAL Ukrainians! And what kind of split might that be, what with Ukraine being sovereign and all?

A split with Russia would be joining NATO.

Exactly!!

"Real" Ukrainians are the ones who actually live in Ukraine and suffer from Yushchenko's anti-Russia fascist policy.

As opposed to the Ukrainian diaspora living in Canada and America who are mostly descendants of the fascist Bandera group, or ex-SS volunters, or war criminals on the run and do the bidding for US foreign policy in Europe being imposed upon Ukraine.

What a typically stupid comment. Those in Ukraine who do not suffer per your definition are not real Ukrainians. Duh, and the USA has Ukrainian diaspora who by definition are evil beings doing the bidding of the USA. Can you get any lower or any stupider? I wonder.

No, it is an independent state, not part of Russia. That Russia is dead and gone. I hope your family there are not suffering under the terrible stuff Jazz imagines, but per him, if they are not then they are not real Ukrainians. I hear it is a pretty place to visit.
