Full story: North Adams Transcript

An MCLA student recently made a comment on the Topix forum: "What does North Adams have to offer?" As a new person in the area, you need to understand where this city was before John Barrett became mayor.

Great letter George. Amazing how some people forget all of the good things Barrett has done. And your letter only touched on a few of them. VOTE BARRETT!

No way, no how, not ever again. What little good one does can not be offset by the cruelty and evil you may do to others. It's like saying a certain German dictator was a nice guy because he built a lot of buildings and liked dogs.

Vote Alcombright.

You say, about the mayor,, "His detractors are people that he had to say no to for various reasons, and now they hate him." That's incorrect, for I am a "detractor", EVEN THOUGH HE HAS NEVER SAID "NO" TO ME. And, I don't "hate" him, though I am VERY DISPLEASED with him.

Say what you will, but the current mayor is self-indulgent, egotistical, arrogant and down-right mean to people. Yes, he has done some good things for the city, but at what cost?

I have seen, first hand, his bullying style; his yelling, screaming, tantrum-throwing style. And, no matter what he may say he can do for the city in the future, I WILL NOT TOLERATE HIM FOR 2 MORE YEARS!

Dick Alcombright is very intelligent, has common sense, has business sense, has political sense, and treats people like his equals. That means he has the tools to be a good, if not great, mayor.

PLEASE, VOTE FOR DICK so we can be rid of nastiness and the fear of retribution for disagreeing with the mayor. PLEASE, VOTE FOR DICK so we can move into a new, brighter era for the City of North Adams.

The mayor says he loves the City of North Adams. I think I love North Adams more than the mayor, and that's why I'm voting for Dick. I hope you will join me.

WOW! "cruelty"-"evil "-"certain German dictator". Could someone get Mrs.A-Oh sorry-I mean spartan a number for a good therapist. I'm even starting to feel sorry for her.All of you slumlord Alcombright supporters may need to do an intervention on spartan. But guess what spartan- in yesterdays Transcript-there were breakins reported in Williamstown and town property values are decreasing-so see there is crime in other places, not just N.A.And other communities are facing hard economic times, not just N.A. So may I suggest you relax-maybe go for a massage-a couple of cocktails with the girls.Because if Alcombright happens to win and he lowers commercial taxes and all of our residential taxes SKYROCKET to make up for that-you will need your energy to apologize to all of the Barrett supporters you have trashed. But fear not spartan-that will never happen. VOTE BARRETT!!!

For the supporters of John Barrett to claim everything is splendid in North Adams is quite amusing and these are the people that most likely head to the confessional each week for forgiveness of their sins. North Adams is stagnant and has been regressing for many years - yet JB Supporters want to keep that stagnation in place.
Actually very funny and quite appropriately the reason why the status broken remains in North Adams.

Gosh. A mayor who hasn't done absolutely nothing in twenty six years. Amazing. Let's never vote him out, no matter how many missed opportunities or corrupt deals he's made.

Reality- bashing those of us that support our community churches.
Wonk-making blanket statements about corruption with no evidence.
I just called Barrett Headquarters and ordered 3 more lawn signs-if these are the kind of folks supporting DICK-it's scary.

“Reality” and “Wonk” you make blank statements just like Alcombright, be specific in stead of vague. New roads are regressive? New schools and playing fields, MASS MoCA, saving the armory and skating rink, I don’t see anything wrong with that.“Yessiree” doesn’t like John because he yelled and ranted and raved, I wonder what you did to deserve it because as long as I have known John I personally haven’t seen it. Maybe it is because you said bad thing to him and about him and didn’t give him the respect he deserves. Acting the way you and others like you act, anyone, including you, would act the same way. You get what you sew. You can’t plant an onion and expect to get a tomato.

LOL - Again folks (Barrett Supporters)- if you like the educational, business and general economic situation in North Adams, then by all means vote for John Barrett. Stagnation is good in your eyes and you can keep telling yourself that story.
And the supporting churches comment was hilarious.

Specific?

http://northadams.massteacher.org/files/Summa...

This is the very specific dollar amount--$603,108.00--that John Barrett has made the unions overpay for the cost of their insurance. How much more specific do you want me to be, Yakky?

Yes, any mayor worth a damn dime should be building schools, roads, and playgrounds. If you think JB is the ONLY PERSON who could have built a road, you're just beyond rational thought.
You get what you sew.
Your mother must have "sewed" an idiot, then.

And Maryann--is there nothing you can say that doesn't show off how little you actually know about anything? You're for John, your're for Dick, you're for nothing. You run for council, you don't run for council. All you do is sit on your smelly behind and type like your opinion matters. News: it has never mattered, it will never matter. Just scoot on back to Complainerville and go post more nonsense about sled hockey.

We can't afford to turn over the wheel to a man who can't steer the ship. We have come so far, let's not go the other way. Dick Alcombright offers no vision and no leadership. What we have is an attempt at a takeover by the rich Williamstown folk backing his campaign. I hope the voters go with the proven thing.

Tom I hate to tell you this but taxes are going up everywhere. George you missed the boat here, there is not one thing you listed that interests college students. They want socializing and job opportunities and North Adams does not have that which is why college students are leaving. na citizen how many job opportunities are in the paper today for the degrees your kids are going for? Terracopy pay attention, Dick has been offering plenty of vision go to the website. You are right, we have gone very far, in the wrong direction, hence the decrease in population.

I know you are afraid of change but change can be good, unless of course you wait two more years when John retires and there are no good alternatives, then you will be up a creek. Do you really think he can completely turn things around in two years? Every election we talk about all the empty store fronts, and here we are still talking about them. Yep, lets keep moving forward with this plan. Lets just keep doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting a different result.

By the way John, showing up at the benefit for Meghan, strutting around, shaking hands, was in poor taste. It was about Meghan not you.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Cancer

You feel the urge to move onward, powered by your wisdom: when you're right, you're right. You may feel that any further explanation is unnecessary, but the people you're dealing with might need it spelled out for them. Take the time to draw a picture or use smaller vocabulary words to get your point across, Cancer. A public demonstration will probably prove to be the last word on the subject.
