LOL, good point. Sometimes when these white suburban people speak you don't know whether to laugh or cry. Obviously you have to be embarrassed for them because they are so ignorant they have no clue how racist and homophobic they really are.
Mrs. R, you sound quite racist to me with your comments. Glass houses.........

beebee-Having sexual relations with a 16 year old is statutory rape, whether the girls were "more than capable of making appropriate decisions" as you say. Obviously, they weren't because of what happened here. Parents, teachers, coaches of youth are there to raise children to be well-rounded adults, not to take advantage of them. Any violation of that trust should be punished with some prison time for this sicko predator. You seriously need to get some help "beebee" if you think this is OK for this adult male to do to juvenile female. This Darwitz guy should know better.
Maybe, just maybe, he was the drunk one and they took advantage of him! Ever think of that?

Actually, the legal age of consent is 16 in MN. The issues are 1)position of authority in combination with consensual sex with a 16 year old and, 2) serving alcohol to minors. This doesn't make it right, but my guess is that the crux of the case will be around whether the fact that he had resigned 3 months prior removes the "position of authority". Then its just down to serving minors. I don't think that makes it justifiable in any way, I just think that is where this will end up.
If the alleged victim is above the age of 16, but under the age of 18 and the alleged perp. is in a position of authority, then it is considered statutory rape in MN.

Kids lose their innocence so fast these days. It is a shame and wrong when an adult takes advantage, even if these girls were or were not, willing to participate.

Okay, the coach and his friend are animals and deserve punishment. However, sixteen year old girls who accept an invitaion to go to a former coach's home to drink alcohol are not the innocent, immature babies that some would like to have us believe. They were old enough to know what they were doing, and the sex, although disgusting, was consensual. Frankly, I think the girls in this iinstance are equally culpable and should be held accountable for their behavior.

I'm not a big fan of white people either. They're annoying and get on my nerves. And they like to take advantage of minorities. White people are also the leading cause of global warming. I bet that money that the bro dudes in this story were white!

Probably some extortion material here, thats why it took so long for the story to come out. What happened was wrong, and the laws are pretty clear about teachers having sex with students. But this isnt 1950s Americana...look at MTV to see the type of behavior promoted to teens today. I think the girls should face some discipline as well.

As a mother of a child that grew up and went to school with Eric Darwitz, this is not a big surprise. The jock mentality that he always had through high school, he has never grown out of. Unfortunately this is the second time a teacher/coach from the same class has been caught in this position. Charlie Brookins was also fired from Hastings for providing alcohol to minors and having sex with a student. I knew this group of boys well, and they have no respect for women - this is learned at home and in the schools. Girls at 16 are vulnerable to these kind of guys.

While there is certainly nothing okay with having sex with a minor, I just wonder why there is/was no consequences for the girls- at 16 they were more than capable of making appropriate decisions, this certainly doesn't sound like a forced activity. I also wonder why this is coming out now?
State of MN legal consent is 16. But being an authority figure and supplying alcohol changes the entire situation. What does not change is this pig was predatory. The loser not only had to go for little girls, but he needed alcohol to persuade them.

Actually, the laws reflect the ambiguous nature of teenage sexuality and the fact that they're probably going to be rutting like a bunch of rabbits, while protecting them from predatory adults. Teenage girls are unable to fully grasp the potential consequences of their actions as an adult should be able to do. This is because the pre-frontal cortex is not fully developed until sometime in the early 20's.

Mrs. R. This article had nothing to do with the former mascot of Park. Also, if you are personally offended by a school using a depiction of an Indian Chief you are certainly entitled to your feelings. However to impugn this mascot selection as somehow meaning anti-minority, anti-woman and anti-gay makes absolutely no sense at all. Not to mention that your rant is off topic.
Finally I suspect that the original choice of any mascot is most likely driven by a thought that the symbol is cool. So it actually is a form of flattery not a offensive gesture at all. Just like the Dallas Cowboys or the Minnesota Vikings. Or must we now apologize to Louis L’Amour and Leif Erickson.

Jealous of...? Mrs. R has a right to her opinion without the inference that she would somehow like to change places with the teenage victims of sexually predatory behavior on the part of your standard hockey player rapist.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Sagittarius

Relationships have been going through through testing times since the Solar Eclipse at last month's New Moon in Gemini on May 20. Events may force you to reevaluate the state of a partnership. You may even decide that you need to make some major adjustments if things are to carry on as you would like. During the coming fortnight leading up to the rare second New Moon in Gemini, this may feel like a crisis, but that doesn't mean you should abandon all hope or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
