Nicer article, but why are their quotation marks around words that are not quotes? Copy editor should have caught that, I believe.

I've not been a Barrett supporter, but I don't walk around with rose-colored glasses on either. However, I've said to many a non-supporter, "I give the devil his due." What he has done, he had done right.

I hope that he gets the privacy he deserves, that he enjoys his remaining years, and that he finds the happiness every person should have.

Good-bye, but bon chance.

I'm glad he has all of these job opportunies. At least he won't be unemployed like most of the people still living here. Maybe he could work part time in the summer at Cascade School Supplies. Oh but he said he may not be able to stay here that's even better. Maybe North Adams can get back on it's feet. Art does not support the majority of the cities people. Maybe he will have luck selling his house or it could be torn down like a lot of other peoples homes. bye barrett.

Good job well in office for the most part but you should of took your own advise.

""Never let yourself believe that you're mayor for one minute. You've just been selected by your friends and neighbors to lead them for a little while. You must remember that you're not special and that you're not any different than them."

It's amazing that anyone can be in politics for as long as Mayor Barrett. When you find yourself in a position where decisions will be made on a daily basis that will undoubtedly anger people, it's simply startling that anyone can be re-elected (or a worthy opponent will come forward to challenge) for twenty-six years. This is an amazing verification of John Barrettes exceptional leadership.

Mayor Barrett has committed himself to the betterment of the City from the first day he took office. We (all) can only hope that Mr. Alcombright will even bestow 50% of the energy Mayor Barrett has.

I only wish North Adams the best and although I disagree with the election results, I wish Mr. Alcombright the best. I don't however believe Mr. Alcombright was elected for his political views to forward North Admas. He clearly received a large portion of his votes merely because people were tired of the Mayor, angry at the mayor, or new voters who simply appealed to Alcombrights jovial attitude.

The next two years will be interesting, I can only speculate how long this honeymoon amongst the Alcombright supporters will last. If it's anything like the Obama supporters, it will be less than a year as his poll numbers steadily decline and the GOP has knocked out the Democrats in NJ & Virginia just one short year after winning vastly in those states.

dude, barrett lost by sixteen points. im not sure you understand the magnitude of a beating like that. this isnt a case of a few malcontents tipping a split ticket. this was a head to head, 58-42 red headed stepchild butt whooping. you can disagree with what you think the results oughta be, but dick won among men, women, over 65s, below 35s, all five wards.

if you really think this was close and a few of eric rudd's buddies and three slumlords put dick over the top, disabuse yourself of that notion posthaste. the entire city was ready to see barrett go and has enough confidence in alcombright.

theres another election in 2 years. why dont you run and see how you do?

Once again...there are no slum landlords only slum tennants.Said slum tennants destroy the apartments as fast as you can make repairs and then walk after not paying the rent for months and the courts look the other way. Just take a good look at these so called poor people.I have traveled all over the world and have been to places where grinding poverty is the norm and guess what? I didn't see and fat slobs with dirty cloths and dirty looks on their faces nor did I see woman with children and no husband.Blame who you want but the state and federal welfare system is the sole reason for this. Welfare destroys people plain and simple. As for no jobs? Two people working at Walmart or at a fast food can make enough to pay the rent and if you chose to take on life with no education or job skills and to dress like a slob what more can you expect?

My exact thought when I read that quote, especially the last sentence. Also, the portrayal of JB as "tough" in a positive way is only part of the truth. He can also be simply "mean."

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Self deception will be the main issue today. You may be judging your situation wrongly: don't hold back, say what you think diplomatically and without being hurtful. This should result in a positive mental outlook for you. Competitive sports activity will ease any stress or tension.
