Building the skating rink on cemetery property was the height of stupiidity in the first place. That land is badly needed for burial grounds. Repairing it it just as stupid, it should be torn down and used as cemetery plots.

Stupidity is probably irrelevant here now Dennie. The rink exists and needs to be repaired for the hundreds of children who use it regularly (my two girls included in that number). I'm sure the dead really don't care where they are buried. The rink is here to stay...maybe you should put on a pair of skates Dennie before you make it into your final resting place. Live a little Dennie :)

Live a little Dennie :) Maybe you should take the advice of Dennie. When it comes your time, you may have to be cremated as there will be no land left for burials, except at the city dump. Maybe you would like it that way. I hear the city doubled the cost of cemetery plots to discourage people from buying them. Smarten up!

Dennie,
You are worried about being buried, are you kidding me? It was not stupid for the state to put up a building for the citizen's of this area to recreate. For nearly 40 years hundreds of children and adults have enjoyed the use of this building. When this project is finished North Adams will boast a quality skating facility. So lighten up Dennie, I hear the rink offers a great learn to skate program, give it a try.

Maybe we can get buried in your back yard when they run out of land.

Hey have fun wasting your life worrying about where your going to die Edison. It's funny that you worry about where your going to be buried, you should feel stupid about your pitiful and poorly thought state of mind. Once your dead your body has no significance. When I'm dead I could care less if a dog ate my rotting corpse. Think about how much fun families have at the skating rink... REGARDLESS of it's location. Finally why should you even care? You live in New York. Get a life punk.

There is plenty of land in the cemeteries to bury people. Let's say the rink did not exist, what happens when that property gets filled. We are all going to die, so why not make the whole city a burial plot, that way the Mayor can rule over a real ghost town. How would the Vietnam Veterans who died in combat keeping you safe in the country so you can worry about where to be buried, feel about this. The facility was dedicated in their memory. Does this make any sense?
Not that we got that out in the open, I think the Mayor proved his leadership by going after the funding to provide the community with a modern, safe and clean facility for everyone to enjoy, a feat prior rink operators were unable to achieve. Public skating is only $3,$2 & $1. Where can you go these days for entertainment that cheap.
I take my family down there all the time and this past year was the best time we ever had. From what I observed, the city selected a couple of year round staff members who did a great job and took pride in their jobs and went beyond there call of duty on many occasions.
Kudos to the lady who was there for every public skating session. She was always there to help out the rink patrons.
I just can't wait until the renovation project is completed, I am sure the arena will look great.

I agree with fixing it for the children, as there is nothing to do in this town for fun! I myself like to frequently skate there :)

What's silly is investing 1.4mil on a single use structure. I agree that there is nothing for kids to do in town, why not expand the options with a multi-use facility if you are going to gut it anyway?

The ice comes out in the spring making it open your great idea about making it a multi use facility.

Just by going there a lot, The Rink Manager is pretty easy to talk to and is very open minded. They have a facility guy down there who could no doubt get the place prepared for any event. You should call sometime if you have any events that you would like to see happen. I believe the rink is six six four eight one eight five. I wear down a pair of skates every year. Love the public skating sessions and we had my son's B-day party at the rink and he had a blast.

Local Rink Rat

When this and all the other State Rinks were built, they were open for six months out of the year. Times have changed and now the local rink is normally open 9 months a year and there is a definte demand for ice almost year round. This past year the rink was very busy. Without the major repairs and new ice surface there would be no rink, however, once it is finished they will be able to hold other events and make it a year round mulit use facility. Any ides anyone has will be welcomed, I'm sure. Give the rink a call and be sure to come down once it is reopened.

How about an inline skate / skateboard facility in the off season? BMX bike racing? Indoor driving range and mini golf? RC car racing? Soap box derby type races for anyone to compete? Local band competitions? Movie nights?
Does take to much to think of a zillion uses, just an open mind by the owners.
