I was able to attend this meeting. Although well attended for Vallejo,(about 50), this event should have had people standing out the door, due to the topic discussed. I appreciated the presentation by Detectives Potts and Tribble and look forward to the continuation next month.
Hopefully the time place and location will be publicized in the TH so more residents will be able to get enlightened.

Thank you to all who came and participated.

"Vallejo Police Department says it needs community involvement" Of course it does! However, there needs to be an environment conducive to same.

The bigger problem now, lays with the City Council and their open and stealth priorities.

Perhaps blanket CCW's permits is the answer and issued to those with a clean background check, criminal and medical, with training.

Let's stop playing games where only the criminals carry firearms and knives.

Have seen any gang injunctions yet in Vallejo. So, how serious are you?

A couple questions. Why go into the whole Norteno, Sureno deal when we rarely here about THESE gangs in the commision of crimes? I do agree it should be addressed but is that who we read about shooting, robbing etc.? Hardly seems a top priority based on all crime occuring in Vallejo. the The last article I heard about them, they were attacking each other. In addition the person interviewed said don't be afraid to call the Police? No one answers when you call. Obviously you aren't disturbing anyone if you call, other than who checks the messages.
Finally, they want you to help them, yet will not allow you to protect yourself??? Be a good witness for what? So you can send an e-mail with good details?
GEE, do you have any insight into this. Did you find this meeting relevant to current events and their information helpful or enlightening? I am not trying to put this down, I think the concept is great, but I am curios if it is relevant to the current situation.

Exactly! Fairfeild/Vacaville take this seriously, and by their accounts it is working! Vallejo once again, seems to be tryin to look like it is adressing the issue while doing little. Why no injunctions?? Can any of the Officers that post here explain this???
Give law abiding citizens the chance to get a ccw with proper training.

Thank you, Cedric. I could not agree more. The status quo provides the criminals with every advantage. It's well past time to end the charade that prevents lawful, trained citizens with clean backgrounds cannot contribute to their own defense as well as that of their loved ones.

Sorry, poor grammar in that last post.

Should read: It's well past time to end the charade that prevents lawful, trained citizens with clean backgrounds from contributing to their own defense as well as that of their loved ones.

Appreciate your interest.
I will try to explain. I am not a gang expert, the presenters were. At this particular meeting both tried to educate us about the "numerous gangs" (not just those 2) operating in Vallejo and the tagging they leave behind.
However the "main topic" of this particular meeting was "drugs", their use and how to recognize their use by children and juveniles.

The gang involvement in crimes committed may not be publicized because mentioning that would only give them further street creds. Gangs, how they came about, their activities and the probability of present day crime involvements were only touched on. Gangs, drugs, guns, crime, prostitution, etc. all seem to compliment each other and Vallejo seems to be flush with it. To see how certain segments of our society destroy lives and derive great benefit and popularity from that is hard to swallow for me, personally.

I have led a very sheltered life and drug or criminal activity would not have been tolerated! Actions came with consequences! Therefore the concept of crime, drugs and consequent decay of the person that engages in that lifestyle is hard for me to imagine.

So yes, my eyes were opened during this limited presentation. I found it helpful because I really did not know the actual extent of criminal activity in Vallejo other than what I read on the net and papers.

I know of the frustration when observing someone doing something that is criminal and not having immediate access to help! Our local law enforcement is asking for help. How we should interact with them has to be explored and explained in greater detail.

I will try to get further information about this issue and will report back to those who are interested as soon as I am able to.

Good luck with that, people don't want to get killed over turning people in to the police.

Perhaps the police would start a reserve/volunteer force. No new dues-paying union members, but boots on the ground.

Thank you GEE! That context makes much more sense than how it was written in the TH. Like I said I am all for the concept and apparently was more informative than I was lead to believe in the article. The tough part is that it is more and more difficult for law abiding citizens to have any interaction with VPD due to dwindling numbers, now riding 2 to a car etc. I do not consider e-mail and voicemail interactive. Thanks again for the info.

If the Chief wants help. and lord knows our VPD needs it, then loosen up with the CCW permits and he would have more help than he could use. There are a lot of people like me who are well versed in weapons, responsible, clean, and qualified. The States that have gone this route have seen crime drop by large numbers. A lot of people carry anyway why not let them do it legally? It is getting to the point in this town where you are probably crazy not to carry. The perps might be a little more reserved if they thought the old man they were about to attack might shoot their a$$ off. Wake Up.

it ain't the calling the cops that's bad, it's the answearing machine message you get that's the problem.

Dear VPD. Want to solve the problem? Issue CCW permits to all who apply that pass the background check and a safty test. Then issue hunting permits with an unlimited bag limit to all who pass the Hunters Safty Course. Remember that gun control is being able to hit your target. God made man in his likeness but Samual Colt made all men equal.

Was there ANY involvement here of ANY of the Neighborhood Watch/Block Watch organizations such as that of Fighting Back Partnership?

If not, why not? Block Watch is the BEST way for residents to get involved in cleaning up & caring for their own neighborhoods.

I'd advise anyone to contact Fighting Back Partnership to learn more about Block Watch.

I'm always amazed that people expres amazement "that more people don't attend" events like last night's. Duh. There's a disconnect between the real community and the people who are suppose to serve us. The TH message board is the perfect example of this disconnect. On one hand you have folks who claim to be psu members who continually denounce the community at EVERY oppotuity. Get real, that same disrepect exhibited on the message boards is more than apparent on the streets. Respect our community and more folks will show up at these meetings. People want to feel safe and they also want to feel respected.

Couldn't agree with you more! VPD is going to double up their officers for their safety, nice that they care so much for their own. How about showing some concern for the people of this h*ll hole? The perps have the up on the cops, the cops cannot protect us, so it makes sense that we should be able to protect ourselves then, and that is what so many already do by carrying without permit. Why criminalize honest people who are only looking to do for themselves what the po po cannot?
Keep 'em cleaned, oiled, and on the ready folks, we are now more on our own that ever before in this place.

There is no community here, this place is like a dead sea. The people tout that in Vallejo they all live in peace accepting the rich diversity, but the reality is that they do not, yet merely make excuses, and go through the motions of a real community. This place is a joke, sad but true.
