I personally think we should give Willie about fifty old and crippled horses to manage and feed , I know he has the money.

Well Ron, maybe we should send our old and crippled citizens to the slaughter house also, but of course, we are humans. There are so many organizations that will take these horses to live out their days. If these horses can no longer function, they should be put down humanely. One day you should visit a few slaughter houses and see for yourself what your fellow man does to these animals before they are slaughtered. Some do not die right away and are suffering, but I assume by your post, it wouldn't bother youy in the least.

gee T-girl, you are starting to sound like Jill... at least your last line does. joking here!
I like horse and dogs, etc. but I'm not a vegan(sp) or a fan of all of PETA,s approaches to animal treatment.
But don't forget that there is a use for horse meat in a number of foreign cultures and if the exporters out bid for the animals, well........
Just don't know what side I'd be one this bill. I need to investigate the issue more thoroughly.

why not: Thanks a lot for the Jill analogy. I am not a fan of PETA myself on a lot of their issues. I am a vegan though and have been all my life. I am adamant about humane treatment of these animals who go to slaughter and those who don't. A lot of these animals go through torture (from human hands) before they are slaughtered. For the people who eat meat, I have no qualms about this. If we weren't suppose to eat meat God would not have placed cattle on this earth. As for exporters, the only pockets being lined are the owners.

Well all that dope Willie has smoked over the years is a step backward too. Maybe if he had ever paid his taxes there would be money to take care of those old broken down horses. Actually Willie and these old horses have alot in common.

T-girl... said I was joking about the Jill thing. smile.
I read up on the bill a bit and it apperars they want to have U.S. control over this rather than subject the animals to foreign demise with the goal that it IS more humane under U.S. supervision.
Respect your vegan life. Humans are ominivores, but we can choose.

Horses are animals & should be treated as such.
If we have horse slaughter here it will be done in a humane way.
Then we will put an end to people starving there horses because they don't have the money to buy feed.
The problem today is that the over population of horses makes it impossible to sell an average horse because someone always knows somebody that will give them a below average horse that they will probably get hurt on & end up in hospital with no insurance (oh I forgot our great President has taken care of that) & the rest of us will have to pay there medical bills. If you can't sell an average horse what do you do with a below average horse when you can't give it away?
We need to bring back humane horse slaughter in this country then we will stop seeing news stories about starving horses. WHICH IS WORSE SLOW STARVATION OR INSTANCE DEATH. I will take instance.
