Putin wants closer military ties with Venezuela

Putin wants Russia to be equal with USA in everything and thinks this will help or at least he mourns after the lost greatness of USSR.

Why not be equal?
Arent people equal in everything?
Then why countries shouldnt be equal?

Good to see Russia is beginning to play with kids their own size.. Hopefully Leaving Georgia and Ukraine alone.

Georgia itself and WEstern Ukraine may do anything they want.
Crimea and Eastern Ukraine as well as Abckhazia and Osetia where the majority are Russian citizens will allways be of our concern.

Why does Russia court Venezuela?

Simple: "Venezuela's non-conventional oil deposits of about 1,200 billion barrels, found primarily in the Orinoco oil sands, are estimated to approximately equal the world's reserves of conventional oil."

I'm no fan of Chavez but if we saw nothing wrong with the US propping up pro-American right wing dictators in Central and South America for decades to further our political/economic interests, then no one should complain about Russia propping up left-wing dictators to further its own interests.

That whole notion of the Americas being in our exclusive 'sphere of interest' has already gone out the window, thanks to our own foreign policy.
