In the studio, McCartney played Kahne a recording of "Now and Then," a song John Lennon wrote and recorded a demo for, and to which the surviving Beatles added parts during sessions for the 1995-96 Anthology project. The U.K.'s Daily Express recently suggested that McCartney will release it as the first new Beatles track in eleven years. "I really liked it," says Kahne, who, like the Beatles' reps, can't confirm any plans for the song. "There are a couple of chord progressions in it that are just amazing."

I know it's true, it's all because of you
And if I make it through, it's all because of you
And now and then, if we must start again
Well we were not sure, that I love you

[chours]

I don't want to lose you - oh no, no, no
Lose you or abuse you - oh no, no, no, sweet doll
But if you have to go, away
If you have to go [next line Lennon sings the notes as he was most likely to finish the song later]

Now and then, I miss you
Oh now and then, I -[the low quality of the tape makes it hard to hear what he's singing but it's most likely that he is mumbling the vocal melody to fill in the gap in the verse]
I know [gap] turn to me

[verse]

I know it's true, it's all because of you
And if you go away, I know you [another unintelligible lyric]

[chours]

I don't want to lose you - oh no, no, no
Abuse you or confuse you - oh no, no, no, sweet darl'
But if you had to go, away
Well I won't stop you babe
And if you had to go
Well [another unintelligible lyric]

NOW AND THEN LYRICS

I like it. It reminds me "Free as a bird" and "Real Love", all were written the same period. If this c... Chapman hadn't taken John from us we would have heard more songs like this.

it is a nice little sad song....george did a little work on it....but decided that it was not worth it...paul wants to finish it, but most likely that won't happen, unless ringo joins him.....

i heard the demo on you tube...it sounds very rough, but very hypnotic......melodic....i wish they could use george's parts and make it good.....

they should've done it back in 1995 when 3 Beatles (+ Joko) could've decide : yes we'll release it as a last single ....they should've ...some other thing wich would've worked out well is the song : Grow Old Along With Me george Martin did a good job on it with the orchestration ...but the surviving Beatles should've done they're bit on it ... the drum for example could've done by a real drummer instead of a drum-machine and some backing vocals as on Free As A Bird / Real Love - could've/should've been added ..i heard about the problem they had with erasing the drum-machine (on Grow Old)but they could've simply overdub it by some distinctive Ringo-drumsound... same as with the song: Now And Then - i heard that they thought the quality was bad ....but listen to Real Love For Example ...you'll hear they did a good job on cleaning the vocals though - but you can still notice a "thin" kinda sound from John's original demo , it worked though ...: John is included ...and they should'ver done it with the rest of all best his demo's too ...but it is ...(as rude as you think i am ) too late ...simple is that .. and it won't be simple to call it Beatles if it would be released in 2007 ... Dear John, Paul , George, Ringo : Thanks for ALL the music you brought to life in your lives and you always will ... greetings Den , Canada

if paul DOES start recording a remake
why not ask JULIAN to to the singing
his voice is closer to JOHN's voice than the original tape recording which is very poor
LENNON can do it
McCARTNEY can fix it

Yes Remi I agree. Paul also can do it, but Julian can sing it like John at a certain degree. In my opinion all the kids-Julian;Sean;Dhani;-must be in the recording.

thanks greg for the support in the julian idea

for all it's worth about ten years ago i sent paul mccartney an invention of mine that can "unmix" muscic tracks, so that it could be easy to isolate and enhance john's voice on free as a bird, real love and now and then

however paul did not react to the idea

but for the sound freaks among us, the idea would still work with now and then

all they have to do is ask

Then it wouldn't be the Beatles with Julian, Sean and Dhani. It defeats the obstacle of putting John on there in the first place.

'Now And Then' has a lot of potential, and it really does sound as if the surviving Beatles can make one last offering to their fans of a sound that millions still love. I really enjoy the full version on Youtube.

HI TONY, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE LOVE ALBUM WITH AN UNRELEASED DEMO. VERY COOL. I LOVE NOW AND THEN, I THINK IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE LOVE ALBUM, WHAT A TREAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN. PLUS THERE'S RUMORS OF A LOVE 2 ALBUM. IT WOULD FIT RIGHT ON THAT ALBUM, WITH A REMIX OF FREE AS A BIRD AND REAL LOVE. C' MON GILES. THE RUMORS STARTED IN FRANCE, OF ALL PLACES.

now and then, would have fit nice on the love album.
there has not been any more news on now and then, since last spring.
i hope that they will at least consider doing it, but it's up to paul and ringo.
I would love to see it released, it is such a beautiful song.
one of the finest songs john lennon has ever wrote.

Why don't the Beatles camp (Paul, Ringo, Yoko, and Olivia and George Martin) release a NEW fresh Beatles album with Now and Then on it?? There are about a dozen Beatles songs that were never released! They were listed in some book I scanned thru recently. I also heard some great Beatles out takes on YouTube that I think would be great album material too! Paul sings in 1968 his Mary Hopkins hit "Those Were The Days". How about that color collage song (I can't remember the exact name) that the Beatles did in 1967. Tie it all togeather with some New Paul and Ringo incidental music and create another Abbey Road concept album--a theme from beginning to end! This album would sell bigtime!

great idea. i'm just glad you didn't mention julian or dhani, your suggestion is very refreshing. that 1967 song is called carnival of light, it was almost on anthology 2, but george vetoed it the same as he did with now and then, but i still love george, i think he was just upset that now and then would need much more work than the other 2 reunion songs.
