Loved this performance...one of the CSO's best new works in recent years...too bad the CSO closed the preconcert lecture so early...

That was the case on Saturday, where so many people filled the ballroom for the pre-concert talk that they had to close the doors and let no one else in. Performance was very good, although if I'd heard it on CD, I might not have been as engaged as live, which should be the case with concert hall music. But then some details would have emerged more clearly on CD. The sound picture was distorted in the Gallery, where the orchestra and sampled sounds drowned Upshaw, O'Connor and Rivera more than once.
