It doesn't matter so much as to the sexual orientation of those who died. The tragedy here is that the structure was not built well-enough to provide safety for those taking shelter underneath it from the high winds. Lives were lost. The nature of those lives is secondary to the tragedy that has befallen these people. Families of all kinds have been hurt from this and all of them deserve our compassion and care.

I realize that. I was just explaining why this ended up in the gay/lesbian and transgender forums. It was posted by roboblogger, which is a program, not a human editor.

This is true. But it seems that Christina was the most locally-famous victim of the disaster. I think it was a nicely written espousal of who those victims were, neither emphasizing nor downplaying her sexuality. If she had been a leader of, say, the local Sierra Club, she'd have gotten similar press. And if her spouse had been injured, that would also have been mentioned.

It's gratifying to me that papers are beginning to report on our relationships in the same matter-of-fact way that they report on heterosexual couplings.

A stage collapses, concert is called because of 'foul weather', 5 people are killed (haven't heard on the news yet who they were or their age), Sugar-land doesn't get to be heard, other concerts cancelled.

It is not being reported, but all four of the women who had died, were lesbians. The two collage age women were partners. Tammy, the older woman who died had a female partner of 10 years and is now suing the state. Christina was the only one being reported as a lesbian, because she an advocate for gay issues.

Very interesting. Could you imagine that if a man and a woman died--husband and wife or fiancees--that fact wouldn't be reported.
