Anyone know what definition of "Major Sponsor" is. Toward the end of the story it says the City of Junction City and Geary County are major sponosors.

no attitude here - just curious what the defiition of major sponsor is - do you have something to hide?

Seems like a legit question. If our tax money is paying for it we have the right to know how much. Come on Rick and Connie fess up how much does one give to be a major sponsor

What's wrong with the city sponsoring this event?

Personally, I don't see a problem with it - except when the city lays people off, closes down the rec department, reduces funding for sundown salute, opera house, and other community events, and denies organizations waivers to use the facilities.

They city said they have done all these things because they can't afford quality of life. Now the are allegedly a major sponsor for an event whose lead sponsor brings in more than a half million a year in tax money.

Yhe city doesn't have any money, it's our money. And we're tapped out as far as providing tax dollars.

You're 100 percent wrong. They used to contribute $500, last year they gave them $250. This year they got nothing, they didn't even ask for anything except a waiver on the cost to use the 12th street community center and Heritage Park, which was denied. So No the city does not sponsor Juneteenth.

hey i never thought about that what about the martin luther king celebrations and events surrounding it does the city sponsor this too?

not that there is anything wrong with it i am just wondering is all

As well he should have an attitude. I have one too, Rick. When my water bill goes to over 100 bucks, when my taxes go up, when we increase sales tax by a percent, your dam right theres a problem with the city and county being a major sponser.

The city said they weren't sponsoring anything anymore. They won't even give waivers for non-profit public events to be held on city property. I think that's why the news that the city is a major sponsor came as a surprise, but like someone asked earlier, what does major sponsor mean. Did the city waive the park fee, even though they refused to do it for others because they need the money. And what about the county being a major sponsor - how much tax money does it take to be a major sponsor?
