Mumbai, Apr 9 : While his association with actors like Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore resulted in some of Hindi cinema's most memorable films, movie mogul Shakti Samanta failed to create a similar onscreen magic with Amitabh Bachchan.

This is correct. The Great Gambler was a big bore and average success. Barsat ki ek raat was average, its Bengali version Anusandhan -made money for 2 average runs - BKER, TGG

Anushandan was on of the biggest hit in bengali film history.
What about awaz/alag alag ?

I have said Anusandhan was the biggest hit of Bengal. Awaaz was an average hit. Alag alag was indeed a deserving flop.

NOt only Samantha...even Hrishida's magic did not work with Amitabh beyond a point....
