Wanted: Marin rock mementos

Full story: Marin Independent Journal

In my long tenure as a rock writer, I can thank Village Music's John Goddard for many unforgettable nights of music by some of the heaviest hitters who ever picked up a guitar.

Nice read. I enjoyed it.

Would you like to help a rock icon take her rightful place in the history of rock?

Orpheus leader Bruce Arnold should definitely be included on the list. I first discovered Orpheus when a friend sent me a YouTube video of the band performing Arnold's hit "Can't Find The Time" for a TV show taped in 1968 at The Bitter End. Being a vinyl nut, I tracked down all four of the band's LP's (there are also three greatest hits compilations on CD) and like many, find it amazing that Orpheus never became a household name. Respected rock historian Richie Unterberger calls the group's music an "antecedent to soft rock" and according to Mojo magazine, artists like Chicago, Steely Dan, Laura Nyro and Elvis Costello have all mentioned Arnold's work in interviews.
Recently another notable Marin resident, Jerry Harrison (keyboardist for Talking Heads) produced a cover of "Can't Find The Time" for Hootie & The Blowfish at his recording studio in Tiburon. There is bootleg video on YouTube of Hootie performing the song live with Arnold at a concert in Golden Gate Park.
Official recognition of Orpheus is way overdue and I can't think of a better way to spotlight this outstanding band then to include Bruce in the Marin Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
