I enjoyed the movie although it was more surrealistic than the book. Though the book described the insanity sufficiently, the movie was just infused with it.
Also, I felt that where the book was mostly funny and only a little sad the movie was mostly sad and a little funny - NOT that I didn't enjoy it - I did. It was simply a more intense experience than reading the book was and perhaps more intense than I was prepared for. Many of the star's performances seemed of Oscar winning proportions. |

This movie is pure cinematic torture that keeps teasing you it's mercifully going to end, but doesn't. Maybe there's a snicker or two in this overblown, undercharged madness, but it's hardly worth the pain.
