This movie just showed tonight on channel 17 here in Minneapolis. Thanks to good old Topix here, I found out that is really was based on a book. I figured so because it had so much detail and characterization that you just don't find from going from screenplay to movie.

Paul Newman should have got an Academy Award for this. I hear he likes to hang out with the crew rather than the director and actors. So he's not much of an a*s-kisser. That must be what it takes to get an AA, in my humble opinion.

Rest of cast was fantastic. James Mason as the evil lawyer. Edward Binns as the Archbishop. Mil O'Shea as the judge. Jack Warden as Newman's fellow lawyer. Weseley Addy as the negligent anesthesiologist. Lindsay Crouse as the wronged nurse. So very many great actors. Great direction. And great editing.
