We need this festival, folks

Full story: InYork

It's not your father's folk festival -- or your grandfather's. It's not all Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan and those other '60s folkies -- though that musical movement would certain be represented .

Buy what about all of the negatives:

1) Poor road design making it difficult to get to the visitor's center
2) Out of control crime
3) Lack of QUALITY hotels and resturants
4) High taxes (might go higher if the hotel tax is approved)
5) Predatory parking enforcement
6) John Fishel & Mike Argento
7) Dirty city

It would be nice to see more of these types of festivals come to York, but honestly, until the city improves itself and image- it'll be hard to attract quality cultural events.

Anyone would have to be nuts to consider having an event like this is in the city. They mustn't read the York newspapers.

The festival does not necessarily need to be in the city. It would be cool to see the event sprinkled throughout the county. Although this could make transportation frustrating for event goers. Maybe a state park (Codorus) could be used. I am glad York is making an effort.

So your from Cockeysville, why do you need to comment??? Maybe bringing events like this, would help to turn things around in York, by bringing revenue and a different group of people. We need to look to the positive, in order to make change happen.

You meant You're not your.
We live in America, I can comment on what I wish too.
You need to address the negative instead of looking at everything through rose colored glasses if you want to change things around. Address the problems, not "hope" for better results (Actions speak louder than words). I'm sure some of my concerns are ones that come up in search committees when they decide on where to host conventions & festivals. Before people will come and spend money in the city, they need to feel safe and welcome.
My ISP address is in Cockeysville. I live in York, but work in MD.

Seriously, "Bro1856"... "addressing the negative instead of looking at everything through rose-colored glasses" (you forgot the hypen" - what do you think this is all about - CHANGE!!! You can sit and whine about it, or you can make a concerted effort to affect change. You're right - actions do speak louder than words. Put up or shut up. Change takes initiative, time, plans, investment, and a decided effort to make a positive impact. Safety is a concern, but it cannot be a barrier.

They could hold the festival at the Harley plant. It will be vacant soon.

You'll never get "Change" in the city until the people there wake up and get out of control of the Democratic elite that control the city like a Chicago-style politician/mob boss.

The current "leaders" of the city haven't tried to "change" much. Crime is going up, taxes are going up, and all they can do is whine about pet projects and the need to give more $$$ to the welfare folks. Unfortunately, the people in the city who do vote, are enslaved and beholden to the political bosses.

As for me and helping "Change"- I do. I have been a mentor for some city kids. I've helped out with fundraisers for non-profits. Safety is a barrier. I used to go to the city at night. I got held up and I WILL NOT go back until I feel safe. I encourage others to do the same. The city has potential- but until the current political structure is broken, it will continue it's downward trend to becoming Harrisburg Light.

I am in favor of York County/City hosting the National Folk Festival. The hard work and efforts of the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, coupled with the support of our community, will bring York, PA to a national stage in a positive light by showcasing our area to all attending this fabulous event.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Libra

Don't hold anything in, especially an emotional burden. The only way to drown the past is to open the floodgates. If you've got something to say, come right out and say it. The only people who might be offended by your honesty don't really matter in the grand scheme of things anyway, Libra. Great changes flow smoothly through your day. When you take charge, everyone feels at home.
