... "Five firearms were supposed to be destroyed and ended up back in circulation," said Inspector Michel Martin of the Sûreté du Québec. "But we believe the firearms never left the possession of officers."
Insp. Martin said the problem was uncovered when the previously registered weapons turned up a second time on the firearms registry - after the guns were supposed to have been melted down at a Montreal foundry.
Lt. Neveu suggested the problem is even more widespread. Weapons that were never registered would be impossible to uncover, he said.
