I am an Ethiopian who have resided in New York City for more than twenty years and learned a lot about Malcolm X by watching movies and reading books about him.

This past summer my thirteen year old boy was given as summer project to read the autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley for which Attallah Shabazz his eldest daughter wrote the Forward.

I had an opportunity to read this fascinating book and talk with my son what he has learned from this project which also brought an opportunity for myself to know many things I have not known before and to appreciate this straight talker more than ever.

Malcolm on his foreign visit however my country Ethiopia was not mentioned as we all know that Addis Ababa is the home of the Organization of African Unity and the late King Haile Selassie was the major actor for its formation.

It is true Malcolm X might have no personal relationship with Ethiopian leaders like Mandella who praised Ethiopia in his own autobiography.

It is unfortunate Ethiopia a pride of Black people never mentioned in this fascinating book about the life and struggle of Malcolm X and I will be glad if you forward this to sister Attallah Shabazz for her feedback.

Thanks,

Tedla Asfaw

Wishing nothing but peace to the family. They have a very difficult legacy and you can see that Quibilah, the second daughter and her son, Malcom`s namesake are really struggling. Not an easy thing to watch your father being gunned down. Malcom himself was troubled growing up and he did very well to get where he did and try to help the community considering the life he had as a young boy (father and uncles all murdered by white supremists, grandmother raped, mother put in a mental hospital, moved from foster home to foster home)And his wife, Betty Shabazz had many of the same issues in her own family. Im hoping somewhere down the line this family can work their issues out and be proud of the legacy of strength that is Malcom X.

Nothing but peace and blessings to the family and power to Attalla Shabazz.
