Climbing flight costs may be around the corner

When it comes to flying, there is no threat that I need to watch my wallet. My two feet are staying on the ground.

Who cares how much it costs ? The profits are all that matter. In fact, I think a tax break is in order here. The savings will trickle down. Right, Ha.

America already 'voted for change' in 2006, and Boy-o-boy, we got it!

Remember it's Congress that makes law, and hands out pork and welfare programs, not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

Two points about the merger:(1) it reduces the number of airlines and thus reduces alternatives and competition.(2) it creates the largest airline in the country (and world?). It will be too big to go broke, and thus the government and taxpayers will step in to save it. Only small airlines can go broke.

How do airlines get investors? It is obviously a dying industry. Aviation fuel prices can only be recouped for so long, I would not favor goverment subsidies to keep the planes flying.

I find it interesting that you're using this board for political posturing but seeing that you have here goes.
It's sophomoric to assign blame as you have without really being educated on what you assert. Without going point to point with you I will say that when the Republicans held all 3 houses, our country saw our surpluses disappear and deficits rise into the trillions and the rest of the world was told that they are either with us or against us. This arrogant form of diplomacy probably wasn't the best route to take:) The real estate debacle was from our curent Presidents desire to have every American own a home. I guess he didn't care that they couldn't afford it and eased the lending rules. Unfortunately, in your simplistic attempt to paint the present ails of the country you fail to mention that they are the direct result of the yesterdays' Republican policy and the inept, in over his head Commander in Chief.. Can we talk about airlines again?

According to the NY Times today, the housing bill contains a substantial subsidy for airlines.

Flying doesent concern me. I havent been able to afford to fly anywhere in about 15 years.

And yes, while everything else goes sky-high, my pay stays the same. Low.

Let's see how long the monkey see monkey do mentality kicks in for other airlines. US Air just announced they will charge $5.00 more for an isle or window seat in the upper section of coach.
