If Health Law Is Overturned, What Will Liberals Do?

Mar 28, 2012 Full story: thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com 4,941

If the Supreme Court strikes down all or part of President Obama 's health care law , it will have unraveled a legislative compromise that many liberals had viewed with suspicion from the beginning.

In one of the ironies of recent politics, Mr. Obama was a late convert to the merits of the individual mandate that now appears to be in danger of being declared unconstitutional.

But the president’s embrace of the mandate — and his willingness to abandon a so-called public option to get a health care deal — was a hard pill to swallow for many of his Democratic supporters.

The Affordable Care Act promises to provide health insurance to millions who lacked it. But it also stops far short of the idea that health care is a basic right for everyone living in the country. And it embraces the market-based system of private health care delivery that has long existed in America.

Exactly what part of this post is not FACT.
Right now millions of 18-26 year olds have insurance who would other wise would not have it
Cost of prescriptions are down
Preventative care that used to not be covered is now covered
In 2014 the preexisting condition is set to kick in.
This is all in the bill this is what is happening right now and this is what will stop happening if it is overturned or repealed.
Right here at GCH month after month we get the report about how much money the hospital lost to cover the uninsured - those costs get put back on those of us who are insured, and not through taxes.
These are the facts you can't change them I understand that you don't like them but you can't wish them away
1. Maybe those out of college 21 to 26 yr. olds could get a JOB and get their own insurance? Until out of school children are kept on parents policies.

2. Cost of perscriptons are down? Really, where? We are paying exactly the same as ever if not a bit higher.

3. Most policies already covered preventive care.

what part isn't true?? Just about all of it. Kids in college aren't kicked off parents policies. People aren't kicked off after getting sick. Prescriptions aren't going to be cheaper because of obammycare.

Yes pre-existing conditions are not covered now. Why? Because why buy insurance at all if you can wait until you get sick then buy it?

That's not a joke, it is the scary truth. The EPA has become the boogyman of everyones nightmares. They have been given unlimited power by the president and they will cause irrepairable harm if allowed more free rein. I wonder if that's part of what Obama can be "flexable" about after he's elected?
Obama has no understanding of the term "flexible". He will use whatever means are necessary to further his agenda.

I suppose we will go back to:
* denying healthcare to people of all ages becasue of they have a pre-existing condition,
*denying healthcare to pregnant women,
*kicking college kids off their parents plan when they turn 18 and have no means to be insured.
* We'll go back to kicking people off insurance if they get too sick or are too hurt
* paying higher costs for prescriptions
* Not having adequate access to preventative care
* picking up the tab for all those who choose not to get insurance
Yeah - that shouldn't be too bad, after all that's the way it's always been done, why change it when it's been working out so well.
I guess the other question that should be asked though is "If the Healthcare law is not overturned, what will the tea party do."
1. Pre-existing conditions is a problem, but most ins. companies have a policy to be bought, yes it's expensive, but to predicate this entire bill on this one very real problem area is not the way to go. Address this ONE issue first.

2. Since when have pregnant women EVER been denied health care? FACTS please.

3. No, College students are covered under their parents policies until the graduate. Then they either get a job or do COBRA. Maybe if they graduated with a degree in something that actually pertains to a job, they would have a job. Just sayin' Women's studies as a major is a dead end, as is Art History, Fencing, Gender Studies etc.

4. Wrong again, it's ILLEGAL to discontinue health insurance just because you are sick and using it. Just another scare tactic by the left.

5. We already pay higher costs for the cost of the indigent and the illegals, what's new about that?

If you only had a real fact or two this might be a better post, going off half informed from some left blog only dimishes your point.

According to my Grand mother, who has a heart condition, and high blood pressure, Prescriptions are not down. They are up. And they will get worse.

Depending on the condition they do deny - and for those that do offer a more expensive policy, those policies are often way beyond one's ability to pay.

2. Since when have pregnant women EVER been denied health care? FACTS please.

They are denied insurance all the time. A pregnant woman cannot get insurance. I never said they would be denied healthcare - that's not what this is about, but she is denied health insurance.

Children (young adults) will be permitted to remain on their parents' insurance plan until they are 26 regardless of whether they are in college. I erred when I said college kids would be kicked off their parents insurance I should have said ALL kids will be kicked off. They can even be married and have children of their own and they will be able to stay on their parents insuance.

4. Wrong again, it's ILLEGAL to discontinue health insurance just because you are sick and using it. Just another scare tactic by the left.
They call it caps. It happens all the time, especially depending on yor policy, if you are in a terrible accident or end up with a serious long-lasting illness you only have a certain amount of insurance, once you reach your cap - you're on your own.

5. We already pay higher costs for the cost of the indigent and the illegals, what's new about that?
And you're ok with that? That seems contrary to the usual Right wing rhetoric

If you only had a real fact or two this might be a better post,
You're right facts do make a better post, you should try posting a few sometime.

going off half informed from some left blog only dimishes your point

And what blog are you getting your version of the facts from? I understand the question about the constitutionality of the individual mandate, I understand that republicans can feel annoyed that they were unable to get the individual mandate passed for 20 years, and Obama walks in gets it done and doesn't give credit where credit was due - but that's a rather juvenile reason to oppose the whole thing.
Now - I best get back to work or I won't have a job and insurance and you'll be stuck holding my bill.

All that has to be done to lower everyone's cost right away is for Congress to do something about all the crazy lawsuits that we all pay for with higher premiums. They could do alot to improve our health care without taking over the entire thing and forcing people to buy something they don't want or can't afford. it was a huge over reach of power and they need to scrap it and start over and this time try to include doctors in the conversation!!!

It won't be overturned.

HUSSEIN OBAMA's thugs most likely visited each member of the Supreme Court with instructions to make them an offer they CANNOT afford to refuse.

Oh how funny. First they bitch that Republicans are mostly the wealthy and the ones that can afford insurance. Thus, Republicans by and large pay most of the insurance premiums and co-pays.

Now this great debator wants us to believe that the employed and job creating Repubs are going to pass off their medical expenses.

TO WHO? LOL!!!

Since when did riding in a car become a law? No one has to ride in a car.
