Teachers pay is very low, compared to working fast food; but you can get a job working fast food without having $200,000 college loans to pay back.
As to the pensions, there is an illusion of a good pension. For example, you make as a teacher,$30,000 and you retire at $25,000. On a percentage basis, it looks good. But total value is still not too good. Why work for such a tiny amount. Instead get a private job (there used to be jobs) and save 75% of the money you make. That would give you a much better retirement and the same living standard as a teacher for 30 years.
HERE'S AN IDEA, don't take out loans you don't plan on paying back!
WAS A TIME when illegal-alien Obama was very proud of the fact he was born a Brit in Kenya before his Indonesian adoption. If people are so dumb they refuse to see this usurper is using a stolen Social Security number & forged Hawaiian Birth Certificate then they are being willfully ignorant. Even with the Freemasons controlling the lamestream media it is obvious Obama is not a "natural-born Citizen".

Maybe you shouldn't have spent a quarter million to get a $40k per year job?

Did that thought ever occur to you?

How about work the 3 or 4 months teachers have off. My neighbor is a HS physics teacher. He repairs cellphone towers in the summer and makes more money than his winter teaching job.

Plumbers make good coin, and can get their licenses after a few courses and an apprenticeship.

If you go to college, major in a marketable skill unless you already are rich. Otherwise it's not a good investment.

So your suggestion is that only the rich should be able to have an education. I see what you mean.

The 3 months off? Continuing education to keep your teaching certificate valid requires classes every other year. To pay for those classes, you have to get a temporary job for the summers you are not getting more training.

Your real suggestion is to dump on the middle class, do everything you can to destroy them.

As to a marketable skill from a college degree; what would that be? become a lawyer, millions unemployed, engineer, same thing, doctor? wages falling, industry in turmoil. Political science? Hey, you could get a job posting on Topix spewing all the republican talking points. But then you don't need a college degree for that.

Where do you get this crap from? Continuing Education applies to any/all disciplines. Most teachers I know get an AUTOMATIC raise when they take those classes. It's a racket. As a CPA I need 120 credits every 3 years. You don't think plumbers need to keep up on the new sinks and faucets? You don't need 3 months to do it, unless you're a moron like you. Most teachers teach the same crap every year.

I'm a huge supporter of education. I just don't think banks should lend money to liberal artists to smoke grass and major in pottery. I also think college sports are completely out of control too. I would never send one of my kids to a big sports school, unless they were on the team.

I stopped donating to my alma mater when I read the college magazine a few years ago. The cover had a guy's PhD thesis. The title was: English is a racist language. I wrote a letter to the Dean, but received no response. They still call, even though I told them to take me off their list.

College costs rise at double and triple the rate of the CPI.... because parents will pay anything.

I gave the white house credit for the MauMau and the Kenya Independence movement. Now I read that it was a lie.
Nancy & Reid should run on this.

??? You in favor of education? Then why do you propose it should only be for the wealthy? I suppose you could argue that it only takes two and a half months, and they lazy teachers could find a part time job for those other two weeks.

As to the classes being a racket, I would agree with that. But that is what your government says has to happen. It is just another GOP mandate to destroy education. The classes are required to keep your teaching certificate valid. I actually took some of those classes. It was a graduate level course and the homework for the first week was to look up a list of words in the dictionary. Perhaps OK as an assignment for junior high children, but not for people supposedly educated in how to use a dictionary.

Automatic raise? Yea, I suppose most teachers just can't wait for the additional 30 cents per hour. They could almost get a cup of coffee every day with all that extra money. If you want to compare teachers to plumbers and CPAs then pay them the same rate.

As to teachers teaching the same stuff, the same way, that is part of the problem. Since the government has made teaching to be such a bad profession, most are not very good at it. They do need proper training, or get out of the business.(Most should leave.) The only way to get effective people teaching is to pay similar to what they would get elsewhere; like the same rate for CPAs.

I don't want banks to loan money to conservative coke addicts to take MBA classes to learn how to rip off the public.
