Romney ads rap Obama's auto aid

Aug 2, 2012 | Posted by: Mr_Bill | Full story: www.freep.com

The 2009 restructuring of the domestic auto industry is part of the presidential campaign again -- only this time, it's the Republican, Mitt Romney, who is bringing it up.

Romney, the presumptive GOP nominee, along with the Republican National Committee released a TV advertisement on Wednesday titled "Dream." It draws attention to the auto dealerships that were closed across the country as a condition of the government-managed bankruptcies of General Motors and Chrysler.

Obama ruined the GM consumer car business. They are doomed to a slow, painful death by communistic control.

I canít believe some people buy Obamaís line about saving the auto industry you would not think people could be that stupid. GM was doing terrible, and they were going to file a chapter 11 bankruptcy, and restructure their finances and use the bankruptcy petition to keep people from taking them to court to seize their assets while they spent a few years straightening out the mess. After which they would be able to pay their secured bondholders. This petrified the union, they know good and well that the company would be able to re-negotiate their contracts and even though those very contracts were what made the company un competitive. GM had become a healthcare and pension support company which just happened to sell cars.
So what did the unions do? Barrack Barrack, hey Obama, remember when we dumped all that money into your campaign to help you win in 08. It is time for pay back.
So Barrack Obama subverts 200+ years of bankruptcy law by whipping out the nations check book and saves GM. Only he didnít, he saved the union not GM. GM would have still been there making cars only their union employees would no longer have been the highest paid workers in the auto industry and they would be providing healthcare and pension benefits which they could afford.
And another little thing, donít forget that the government owns stock. If the government sold its stock at todayís prices it would have cost tax payers 35 billion dollars. Just watch, it wonít be long before they are bragging about paying the government back. Just watch, when GM gets the money they will buy the stock back but at what price ?
Also because the legacy cost remain high the same problem is likely to pop up again since Obama did not solve that, he was only interested in saving the union not the company.
When Obama says I saved the Auto Industry; Obama is a lying sack of yack squeeze. He saved the Union.

As opposed to Mr doofass Romney's philosophy, to close the factory, ship the machine tools to some third world country, and fire the US workers to hire new workers at a dollar a day?

President Obama savdthe US auto industry, without exporting US jobs.
Remember that, Eighthman supporter of offshoring.

Romney means prosperity. For Dubai.

Actually, mr_shillfortheobamanation, the obamanation saved the union for one reason and one reason only, so the union would have plenty of funds to contribute to the reelect the obamanation fund. No jobs were shipped overseas but a bunch of Republican car dealerships were closed and a bunch of people lost their jobs.

LOL...keep up the stupid ads, Mittens. This is probably the dumbest one to date.

He's blaming Obama...for saving the auto industry and tens of thousands of jobs...but costing a few hundred jobs (mostly temporary job losses) at dealerships.

Really, Mittens?

LOL (shaking head)

Two major American car manufacturers were saved, dipstick. Tens of thousands of jobs in those companies and associated industries, too.

The fact that it helped out union employees was probably not lost on the President and his advisors, but that was merely a sidelight to what this did to help the job-loss picture.

Which if you're intelligent enough to remember, or honest enough to admit, was heading sharply DOWNWARD before Mr. Obama took office.

Idiot.

No they didn't pay the treasury back... They borrowed more money then handed it back so it looked like they paid the money back they still owe the tax payers over 40 million buck-a-roos!!

They could have still been operation under chapter 11 withOUT our money, which is what they ended up doing anyways...

It's a bunch of crappola you're buying into.

There are billions of dollars that were wasted in saving the Unions, and pumping them full of money to be kicked back. This is the most corrupt Administration in the history of the country. We will never recoup the losses.

why is GM paying a CEO 7.7 million plus bonus! Because its the taxpayers money, when they start paying wages that are generated from profit from auto sales, he'll be making around 10 dollars per year!
