Mithun is a natural gifted actor, who wears is sleeves in all that he does. He's aura and screen presence have yet to be matched in 'bollywood'. Amitabh though a good actor is not in the same league as the great Mithunda! Amitabh, however, is very media savvy, and knows how to manipulate the system- thus guranteeing all plum projects. A similar technique has also been adopted by Shah Rukh Khan.

Actually, with hindsight, the Amitabh-Mithun argument has uncanny reverberations with the Salman-Shahrukh debate.

And for all those people who think that 'sholay' is the greatest bollywood film, you seriously should not make any comments. Think Kurasawaa (seven samurai).

agree with your comments regarding salman - shahrukh debate. salman is in a similar situation as mithun was. like mithun, salman is not too bothered about things, and most definately has a bigger heart than shah rukh khan. its a shame that all the good hearted actors get a raw deal. but intelligent fans know who the real heroes are and who the better human beings are. mithun and salman top that list. if mithun was a bit more media savvy in his early days in bollywwod, and chose his projects carefully, there is no question he would have been on par with amitabh today. but dada doesn't play that way. his humanity is much more important to him than anything else, something amitabh would not know nothing about !.

nevertheless, dada has made some classic films in the 80's and early 90's which will most definately go down in bollywood history. even today, no bollywood actor can match the charisma, style, awesome screen presence that used to have in the early 80's. his style was mind blowing and unique. he most defintely was the quentiessential bollywood hero. he had it all - the looks, the fighting skills, the dancing skills, and foremost -the acting skills. there will never be any bollywood actor even remotely like dada again. dada was simply awesome - he still is.

Why MITHUNDA is better that amitabh.....there are so many reasons...Mithunda is a great and successful actor, down-to-earth, unique, behaves alike with everybody, does not seek prominence, name, fame....helps people unselfishly, etc. etc....these are just a few to mention :)

While the topic whether Mithun is better than Amitabh boils down to personal favorites, the fact remains that Mithun Chakraborty, an actor par excellence, has been probably the most underrated in Bollywood. While Amitabh is a living legend, gaining unparalleled popularity...playing all his cards right, saying/doing the right things at the right time...Mithun holds the fort on his own. Debuting at a time when the Big B, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra ruled the celluloid, his lonesome struggle (without a godfather or big banners backing him up) and ultimate superstardom delineates a poignant story of indomitable courage, determination and sheer will. Hailed as the 'King of Disco'- taking the dance form to unprecedented heights - tags like the 'first dancing phenomenon','a la Jackson','Indian Bond', have often suppressed his caliber as an outstanding actor. The arrogant, so-called classy critics and a segment of the audience have often written him off as the hero of B-grade films often forgetting that Mithun gave his best even in these less popular movies. The fact that Mithun has won several prestigious awards, including the National Award in his debut film and couple of times thereafter, worked with notable directors like Mrinal Sen, Buddhadev Dasgupta, Rituparno Ghosh (delivering a realistic yet again superb performance in his 'Titli') and currently Mani Ratnam, suffice him being an outstanding actor with tremendous potential. Interestingly he was the first to be conferred the 'megastar' title when superstar Amitabh was ruling the silver screen. Rumor has it that a certain section of the Bollywood industry sabotaged his roles, especially in movies he starred with the Big B. It is ironical, but not surprising that Amitabh (as a typical angry-man hero) got the award for Agneepath when Mithun's portrayal of the charming Krishnan Iyer, MA goes down as a memorable performance! It is a delight that he has been ruling the Bengali film industry recently (his role and dialogues in 'Phata Keshto' becoming legendary), giving the younger actors a run for their lives, and has staged a worthy comeback in Bollywood with 'Guru'(surprisingly his neat cameo in 'Lucky' was mostly unnoticed)! It is a shame that this versatile talent has gone unnoticed by many but rays of hope still loom as MAX dedicates a tribute by hosting a fortnight long festival 'Lage Haho Mithunda!'

At a time when Amitabh didn't care for 'older looking' roles and chose to portray father to his own self in double-roles, Mithun boldly ventured into new arenas, donning new avatars and experimenting with deglamorised looks. Although Mithun became an icon in the 80s, he failed to retain the peak of superstardom due to his lack of manipulation, and by letting his heart rule (and this Bengal tiger having a heart of gold is a well known fact)! Whether or not he will be remembered as a great actor or not, he will certainly be remembered as a great human being lending out a hand when needed. Perhaps, that's what has cost him -- he put his own career in line to help others and was definitely not selective! Call him foolish, call him naïve or gullible, it shows that he still remembered where he came from and didn't let the glitzy world change him. At least Bengal will not forget their darling Mithun da and will always honor this tall, dark and handsome man with a heartwarming smile!

This is my first post ever…but topic was too irresistible…sorry for the length.

To say that Amitabh became big because of the way he manipulated the media etc etc. Is utter rubbish!!!

Amitabh Bachcan banned the press media for over 15 years. From 1976-1990 he did not speak to the media. During this ban he became a phenomenon!

Please get your facts right before you post!

mithun chakroborty is a pimp & amitabh is pretty good in acting looks etc he is the ri8 man chosen to dominate the world
he attained popularity due to his mantle & acting skills he really deserves superhero position unlike mithun who is an ugly dark uneducated old balding alcoholic his humanism & charity has been largely exaggerated by scraps like u
but that too in vain
big bs popularity is unmatchable
while ur mithun is an unparalleled drunkard & lots more !

Amithab is amithab in all the earlier roles he had done, whereas Mithun gets into the character he potrays. One should watch Mithun's varied performances in movies like Thahedar Katha, Gudia, Dance Dance, Jaag Utha Insaan, Parivar, etc before commenting on him. Mithunda is the most versatile and talented actor we have had.Amithab is also good actor but Mithun can do all Big B can and much more. For all his greatness, Amithab is over-hyped.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
