This is such a poignant article.
I would like to see all actors and performers - of any description who are targetted by the loathsome paparazzi be able to form some sort of class action together and change laws and disable these parasitic photographers from earning a living from the natural human emotions or the unforseeable circumstances of personal lives. I am nobody, therefore, not newsworthy - so I have anonymity. Does anyone see the flaw in what I just said? I believe that everyone human being on the planet has the right to down time and a peaceful, safe and private enjoyment of their own time. I would like to see people whose lives are being constantly harrassed and invaded by the paparazzi and whose ordinary lives are being objectified and turned (errantly according to laws in some plceas) into a marketable commodity so that the almight dollar can be earned do something united and world wide about it. In Australia it is illegal to photograph anyone else's child except your own. I'm not certain that this extends to those children who are considered "newsworthy" - I most certainly hope it is. By what law and by whose authority is a little child's image allowed to be displayed to the world without, at least, parental consent. What are the rights of these little children - who have no say in the fame "newsworthiness" or otherwise of their parents and, through their parentage, themselves. These little children have no choice at all when it comes to the paparazzi - who do not respect their incapacity to make informed choice but, instead, hide behind inadequate laws to objectify them as saleable commodities. Would they like to see their own children treated in the same fashion? Perhaps the tables could be turned. Who among the paparazzi would like themselves, their loved ones or/and in particular their children, constantly followed and photographed - and these images displayed to the world for all to see and know who they are and where they live? Michelle - I for one apologize to you and your beautiful daughter for being in the demographic tabloid magazines target for their purchase. I do not buy them - but I HAVE seen them - and been interested. In my own defense I would like to add that my interest has been based on concern and love but I DO respect that your lovely daughter should be better protected than that. So should you and, having said that, so should Heath have been. From all the interviews with "the paparazzi" - all I can glean is that their mindset is based on totally errant and spurious rubbish - the justification for what they do is beyond belief. I for one would rather starve in the gutter with some integrity and dignity than sell an unsolicited photograph of you or your daughter to earn a living. |
