because these two are not being sucked in by the larger gay community that have become fixated on some special mythic notion of marriage. they realize there is nothing magical about this institution of marriage. especially in a society where over 50% 0f them end in divorce. not very special.

the problem lies in too many gay people being suckered by the notion that getting a "certified marriage" label will make a difference in the tolerance factor. it wont. the avg. already intolerant, narrowly reading/interpreting bible literalists will still hate 'em. as will all others who think they know what their god is thinking. be they xtian, muslim, hindi, or KKK member...

IMO, the gay community have been fighting the wrong battles for too long, but too many of them are being led around by the nose. or their genitals.

marriage isnt magical, unless the two involved get past the fantasies that society has promulgated about it, and make a pact between themselves to commit to weathering and working thru the hard times. americans are too caught up in their fantasies...on too many fronts.

I saw an interesting article the other week. Elton John was speaking about how he felt the gay agenda in California for gay marriage was completely wrong. He was very vocal. You never know.

actually, gay marriage being legal does increase the tolerance in the larger society

in Canada, the split was pretty much 50-50 prior to the legislation passing

and a year later, when a new gov't tried to strike it down, there was 60% in favour, and a larger majority of Canadians were against striking down the legislation, even if they disagreed with it

gays being treated the same under all the laws of the land do increase tolerance, because then they are not second class citizens
