I do not agree with this review of Thaïs. I thought it was a very touching production concentrating on the drama rather than the scenery.Contempory in its approach and faithfull to Massenet's intentions.

The singers were indeed wonderful but they were carefully directed and although they are indeed gifted actors, the satging was not left to improvisation
The only pretentious element is this reviewer opinion.
