This guy was fantastic, really good, an original, but his relentless self-championing took away most of the fun of it, especially when we, as the public, were faced, every now and then, with interviews where he kept repeating, everything he's said, over and over, in the last 50 years.
Life was not kind to Bo Diddley, for he lived a long life, for a rocker, that is, without ever realizing that, after all, 1 out of 10 amongst the truly uncompromising makes it, in the sense that he wanted and failed to.
It is not always, and entirely, a matter of virtuosity, and it will never be.
