Years ago, when I was a kid, in the '60's, I first saw an old movie on TV that pre-dated the time and probably even television in which the actor, whom I believe was Lee J. Cobb, played the part of a washed-up doctor, begging for money from a stranger, in India, I believe. When the man called Cobb "A bum," Cobb replied by saying, "A BUM? "Johns Hopkins Medical School, Chief of Surgery, etc."
I can't remember the name of that old movie, even though I did see the same minor sequence of it quite a few times over the years, but I do remember that the movie's theme had little to do with it and I am sure it was Cobb after all. He had a distinctive looks, sound to his voice and cry, so I compared him to known roles of Cobb, such as that of the Flint Movies and they matched perfectly. If you remember him as Kramden, Flint's loud-mouthed boss, yelling, "Flint's alive!, FLINT'S ALIVE!, Did ya' hear that??? FLINT'S ALIVE!" That was Lee J. Cobb and there's mistaking him for anybody else.
I want to know how his role went in that old movie, particularly how it ended. My now ex-wife was the moviebuff, so she suggested two possibilities: 1) It could have been an actor who is mistaken for Cobb, which is fairly common for actors. And, 2) It could have been a cameo appearance of his, which wouldn't be included in the IMDB Databank because it would be insignificant in comparison to his starring roles and TV show.
I know he died in 1976, so, after driving the movie historians crazy, we reached the conclusion that the only way to find out would be to contact his relatives or former agent. Because we had no contact info for them, we stopped about three years ago.
Now, I'm begging for help from a stranger.
