Priceless.

But hopefully Dave backs off because this can get overplayed.

It's good to know, though, that the Republicans aren't in any real rush with the economy melting down. They're now proposing another plan that will take days to review and negotiate. These guys are full of ideas AFTER the fire has started and the building is burning to the ground.

You don't go spending 700 billion dollars because a group of Congressmen and the current President want to and THINK it will help. Hell they could give each American One million dollars and still have money left over! I'm glad a group of Republicans decided to slow it down and weigh out some different options. You should never make major financial decisions in an emotional time.

We're in the housing/subprime mess due to the policies going back to the Clinton Administration whereby lending institutions were strongly encouraged to give every American a shot at the American dream of owning a home. Thus the vast numbers of loans written to unqualified people, with no income verification, interest only loans, deferred billings and other schemes. The housing bust and lending fiasco was predictable given that most of these subprime loans should never have been written in the first place. Not everyone is destined to own a home, but the group think and the "equality" crowd insisted that these low income earners get a piece of the pie. Now, fast forward and this is where we are today. Government, when meddling goes this far, usually creates fiascos like this. But this one you can't blame on the bad, bad "Bush Administration" completely.

Particularly since President Bush tried no fewer than 17 times to get congress to reign in the exponentioal growth of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac... but you won't read that in this paper.

this jackass has spent too much time in NYC & lost his grounded, midwestern roots. NO MORE LATE NIGHT W/DAVE.
I have been a faithful fan since the early 80's (when my family taped his shows on VHS and sent them to me overseas while I was in the Navy).
But no more - he and Paris are kindred spirits who can whine freely together but I sure dont have to listen to it.

David Letterman is using this to try and get better ratings for his failing show. This won't change his show from being boring.

Dave is perfectly within his rights. If McCain had actually rushed back to Washington has he claimed he was doing, instead of hanging around NYC for another 24 hours Dave wouldn't be so ticked. Go get him.

Amen JHK; this mess didn't begin a week ago and it need not be solved in a week from now. I'd like to see our "braintrust" in D.C. look at all the angles here and get a real solution that will be in the interest of the taxpayers.

I get the feeling that the majority of our people in Congress don't have a clue about what's needed to correct the problem and are doing what comes naturally to them; going along with the powerfull in their own political parties. Too many of these are married to the Wall Street "experts" who helped put us in the position we are in and are looking for ways to help themselves and their friends before the average citizen who's going to pay the bills in any case.

Take the time necessary and make sure all agree that the decision is the proper one for the vast majority of U.S. taxpayers and that it will work.

Sheesh. Trying to assign partisan blame for the meltdown? What a complete waste of time. The structure of the system is Republican (low regulation, allow government to self-regulate), but Democrats were also asleep at the wheel when they ran Congress under Bush. So, blame them both, and let's try to resolve it. That being said, McCain is a hypocrit for being pro-regulation NOW, when his whole career is a testament to deregulation and the "market."

Letterman is personally offended. He has his own show. He can spend his time hammering John McCain if he wants. Day Two seems a little excessive, but Day One was, in my mind, completely fair.

Run and hide little old man! Maybe McCain should keep campaigning since he's been part of the problem all along.

Clinton signed a bill that Bush Sr put into place before he left office, so the real problem with this whole mess starts with...you guessed it...a Bush!!! And GW did NOTHING for 8 years about this whole mess - NOTHING!!

Actually Clinton pushed it through before he lost congress. Then unfortunatly special interests took hold.

What is wrong with some of you people. The failing of the bailout is because Republicans are trying to save the taxpayers. Do you NOT understand that if a $700 Billion bailout of these companies will be paid back by the American people? I don't know about you people, but I sure as hell don't want to have to pay back someone else's screw-up.

Oh, and if Bill Clinton was such a GREAT President, then why did he sign the bill? You want to put the blame back on a Bush at whatever cost. Bush Sr. "may" have put the bill into place, but HE didn't sign it...CLINTON DID!!!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Pisces

Having to bow down to convention or limitations is enough to make you want to scream right now, and you'll do your utmost to rebel in any way you can. Be careful about this because you could easily get on the wrong side of someone who has power or authority over you. It feels as though you're battling with forces that want to keep you under control, and you don't like it one bit.
