Charity refuses 'Calendar Girls' donation because it would 'support the sex trade'

Well, it shouldn't be difficult to find a more gracious charity to donate the money to.

It could have been worse. It could have been the proceeds of a BDSM film. Women would not only be naked, but tied up, slapped, spanked, and beaten, all for a good cause of stopping women from getting beaten. That might be a good thing. Those who want to be beaten can pay to help those who don't want to be beaten.

This goes ta show you that batterd women don't want help. The smart ones leave,the stupid ones stay.

I fail to see how posing nude for a calendar photo has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with the sex trade.

Charity should not be taken lightly...

I will try to use the common sense answer here. Women taking their clothes off to pose for a calendar that guys will buy to see T&A... us guys look at T&A and think "damn, i'd like to F* that"... unless it's the freakish stuff like a 700lb woman doing the salsa... in which case it's purely for entertainment... and we think "damn, who would F* that?". So for the battered womans organization to not want to be associated with the nude calendar is not unreasonable, let's be real... nude calendars of woman are purchased by men who wanna see hot girls they would F*, not guys who buy them for their artistic value.

What irony. This charity, which boasts a membership of feminists, turns out to exhibit a puritanical prudishness, matched only by an inability to laugh at human silliness.

The solution here is so simple I am amazed the rest of you have not seen it! Just make the fundraising, nudie calendar with the men who drove the abused women into the shelter in the first place as models.

Have them nude save for their "wifebeaters." I'm sure sales would do well in the domestic market....

Nadia Sulman was offered a lot of money to do a porn movie, but she refused it. Refusing money from sources you do not agree with does not mean you don't need it. Some people would die before supporting some things... me on the other hand, well, i'll candy from a baby! ;-)

You are trying to compare not excepting an offer to be in a porn to not excepting free money from somebody who poses nude? Very bad comparison. They don't compare in the least bit. I agree with lonewolf.

OK, lets make it more like comparing apples to apples. Some people will not wear diamonds because of the diamond trade corruption and unfair labor practices... how about vegans not eating certain items... I bet if you saw a really hungry (not dying, just really hungry) vegan and offered them a hamburger, most would not accept it... however, offer that same vegan some sunflower seeds and they would gladly accept it. In fact, the prove my point, as I was riding into work yesterday in SF, some homeless lady had a sign around her neck that said "I am VEGAN"... I asked her why she wore the sign and she a lot of people tried to offer her food from animal products. This lady was quite nasty and clearly homeless, yet should would not accept any meat, dairy, or other products derived from animals.
