Look Ruben when the Paroling people get done with your sentence, you'll be out in a year or two. This just makes for good headlines.

He had two prior felony convictions and he still committed a crime that could have resulted in one or more deaths using a firearm. He shouldn't be given parole..EVER! If he didn't learn the first time, he won't learn again. Some are just STUPID and society shouldn't have to pay.

1 It is impossible for me to feel one iota of pity for a parasitic predator like Ruben Royce. I just don't have that much Gandhi in me. I can only feel the desperation and sheer terror of his victims trying to prevent him from entering their homes. The fear and horror of surviving through the experience affecting each victim's waking and sleeping moments even until today completely overshadows his difficult childhood. Any pity belongs to his victims. He deserves only justice. Look at our own faults? Mindless drivel. Maybe a better person, but not smarter. |

1 Only because he was caught! Predators like this should be put away for life not just 30 years. |

Listen to yourself! Your making excuses for someone who purposely violated other peoples rights in their own homes and endangered the community becomes he comes from a broken home?!? I’m from Hawaii and I come from a broken home and I ran with a bad crowd growing up, but I made a decision to join the military 21 years ago to better myself, just like a lot of other people who had problems but made a conscious decision to change their lives instead of blaming their upbringing, their surroundings, the police or people that abused them for turning them into predators that prey on society. When you violate someone else’s rights you give up your own rights as a human being, and if people like this who don’t give a damn about society, it’s laws or the people around them were erased from existence the world would be a better place. This guy actually tried forcing his way into an elderly couples bedroom while they tried to keep the door shut and protect themselves! In a perfect world they would have had a gun and shot him through the door, oh wait, in a perfect world we wouldn’t have criminals like this knuckle head stealing from and hurting other people. Think about that the next time you make excuses for the criminal that breaks into one of your family members homes to steal to support their drug habit and kills someone because they didn’t want to get caught. It’s because of people with your thinking that allows these animals to get paroled or just be put on probation where they end up re-offending over and over again. |

All the more reason for the Legislature and Judicial system to get their act together and enact harsher laws for crimes while on drugs.Violent crimes while on ice has been allowed to permeated every facet of society by a slap on the wrist and do-nothing politicians. If not, victims and violence will continue with no end in sight.

1 No one cares about the reasons anyone does a crime. We just want them out of our society. |

1 Castle law in this state would reinforce people being properly protected in their home. 911 would not have helped when the terrorist is breaking down your bedroom door. For this reason my "protection" is within easy reach at home. |

5 People aren't forced to take drugs, they do so of their own choice. Being on drugs is not an excuse for their criminal behavior. Criminals only show remorse because they get caught. Otherwise they will continue their crimes as long as it benefits them. Royce should never be inflicted on Hawaii's populace again. |

1 Right on..bsquare! There may be plenty of blame to go around but Royce made his choices and controlled his own destiny, as well as his unfortunate victims. Scum like him don't deserve to be on the streets inflicting his whims on society. If he came barging in @ my door the State wouldn't need worry about wasting any tax dollars on him. |

1 I don’t agree with bsquare at all and I’m not saying you’re a sicko at all, and by the way I have been to Afghanistan and Iraq on more than a few occasions, and I’m still active duty and I too fight for peoples right to voice their opinions. My point is not making excuses for people who deliberately violate others peoples rights to safety, freedom and not being victims’ to criminals like this guy. I’m not even attacking you, I’m saying that the same sentiment about it not being entirely the criminals fault is the same thinking that gets these dirt bags paroled early, like the guy who got sentence to 15 years for raping a 13 year old girl, but gets paroled after 2 years, then the day after he’s released he rapes the same (now 15 year old girl) in her garage. It’s the same thinking that gets these guys out of prison early so they can commit more crimes, and it’s perpetuated by the politicians who are voted into office by people who think the same way. I’m not without sin and I don’t claim to be, but I don’t break the law and I don’t hurt other people. |

1 Hawaii DOES NOT have bigger problems than Ruben Royce. This is exactly Hawaii's biggest problem. Lack of good upbringing followed by drug use followed by getting caught once or twice, not learning the lesson followed by getting let out of prison (or rehab or elsewhere) only to go out and do worse, then get caught (again) and then have the possibility of parole and people (who do have the right to their opinion) who then say he deserves a 3rd (4th, 5th?) chance. This one story IS HAWAII'S BIGGEST PROBLEM. |
