The list of great ones could be miles long, but to me.....

John Denver , Jim Croce,Buddy Holly are just a few of my favorites, but one of my favorites is ...
Dion Francess Dimucci of the Bronx in New York.

Dion Francess Dimucci was born on july 18th 1939 (making him 69).

Dion always wanted to be a singer, in fact his idol was Tony Bennet and many of the old blues and country musicians.

Then in 1956, the appearance came of Elvis Aaron Presley and changed his life, like it did many other future musicians (David Gilmour, John Lennon etc...).

In 1957 Dion sang with a session group called the Timberlanes and they released 2 non hitting singles.

Then, in 1958 Dion joined his friends and became Dion and the Belmonts, and sang doo wop Italian style.

Dion and the Belmonts lasted untill 1960, when they parted ways , Dion wanted to be more rockin', while the Belmonts preferred the crooning songs.

In 1959 Dion toured with Buddy aHolly and they got to be great friends and in fact, Dion was supposed to be on Buddy's plane, but opted out and remained aboard their tour bus.
Buddy Holly,Richie Valens and the Big Bopper, along with the pilot all died on that fatefull February 1959 day.

Dion went solo in 1961 had many pop/rock n' roll hits from 1960-1963.
From 1964-1966 Dion started recording blues songs, but had no hits, but it didn't matter to him because he had the freedom to record what he wanted.
In 1967 Dion and the Belmonts recorded a reunion album , but it was unnoticed by the record buyers.
From 1968-1972 Dion recorded folk music in the same vein as John Denver and Jim Croce, but it was 1968 that Dion would have his last big hit charting single.
In 1975 Dion recorded an album with Phil Spector, Dion wanted that wall of sound , but in the end it was very chaotic and the album only came out in the U.K.
From 1976-1978, Dion recorded contempory soft rock, and gained good reviews for his guest spots on many t.v. shows.
From 1980-1986, Dion recorded albums that reflected his new found Christian faith, and was sucessfull on the Christian music charts.
In 1986 Dion was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
From 1989-1993 Dion recorded music with a harder edge it's considered some of his best music ever.
From 1993-2000 dion recorded no new music, but toured all over the country.
In 2000 Dion recorded a new album in the style of the early 60's, Deja Nu was jokingly called the lost album.
In 2003 Dion re-recorded some of his earlier hits and added newly wrote songs and made New Masters.
In 2006 Dion returned to his blues roots with, Bronx in Blue, and was nominated for a grammy.
In 2007 Dion recorded another blues album, Son of Skip James to great reviews , in fact the single,"The Thunderer" is a bit hit in New York and even in Catholic churches, for it's tale about Saint Jerone , a Bible translater.
Here in 2008, as Dion recently turned 69 and shows no sign of retiring, and it seems Dion is the only Rocker from the 1950's still writing, recording and touring, Dion is the king of the New York streets.

Whew, it took me almost 40 minutes to write all this, but Dion is another one of my musical passions.

Dion was never a teenie bopper or pop star, he was much more than that.
I truly admire his music and his convictions.

Thank you Carmen, I hope it's ok that I posted it here on the John Denver forum.
I actually opened a Dion forum, but there's no activity there and it might get lost and forgotten.
Dion is such a gifted guy, his passion for God is very inspirational to me.
And Dion's music is still as fresh as it was back in 1958, with the song "I Wonder Why".

Thanks for the kind comments.
Hope it made your day better.

Carmen, if you want an album with his best I highly suggest the 2000 boxset called "King Of The New York Streets".
It features his best songs from 1958-2000.
Dion's best known songs are:

I wonder why
Teenager in love.
The Wanderer.
Runaround Sue.
Ruby Baby.
Donna The Prima donna.
Drip Drop.
Abraham,Martin and John.
Your Own backyard.
Sanctuary.
Lookin' for the heart of saturday night.
The truth will set you free.
Written on the subway wall.
And the night stood still.
King of the new york streets.
Higher than heaven.
Shu bop.
I let my baby do that.

but these are just my favorites, he has many other great songs........

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Aries

Someone is being very informative and helpful, especially if you want them to explain something that you don't understand, so listen carefully to what they tell you. This is also a great day for making some travel plans, perhaps by arranging to visit a friend you haven't seen in a while or by discussing where you should take your next holiday.
