Full story: Chicago Tribune

Former "American Idol" contestant Alexis Cohen, whose profanity-laced rant on national television garnered her a bizarre sort of fame, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday in Seaside Heights, N.J., according to the Ocean County prosecutor's office.

Sounds like she was a mess, but shouldn't have had to go like she did.

This is very sad. All she wanted to do was become a singer. RIP Alexis.

Does anyone know Simon's whereabouts at the time? Just asking...

Seriously, as tragic as this is, how do you describe her as "legendary?" She was just someone who didn't take rejection well.

As bad as she seemed. I would say that she was over all a very nice lady. I enjoyed seeing her perform on AI. She was Very funny. I only can say I laughed with her as she looked back on her performance with the AI judges. I wish her soul the best of rest and may she sing with the angels above and rock gods sock off!! Rip Alexis!

I now the show wouldn't be the same, but some of these kids or people really think thy have talent. The show doesn't just crush their dreams but don't help their self esteem. Thy show should have more class, or thy just enjoy putting or making fun of people less forchunet then them.

By your logic about 80+% of the people on that show should be "weeded out".

Great point !!!!

Why does The Trib disable comments when some people die but allows it for others? Shouldn't the editors show respect for all the dead regardless who they are? Regardless of what you think of her or American Idol, it's a tragic death. R.I.P. Alexis.

I'm sorry for her family - that is a tragic thing to happen. Even though it is completely tasteless, the first thing I thought of was I hope Simon has an alibi.

Next thing you know, they'll be running obits of people who cried as contestants on kids' TV shows. This doesn't honor Ms. Cohen's memory at all. I'm sure she was loved, but in death Brian Callaway and Scott Kraus have ensured she'll be a national joke. Way to go, guys. Glad to see it took to reporters to put this together. Give the people what they want. TMZ, you have won.

Sad to hear, but really whats it matter? Its one less person living on the goverment, people die all the time, and because this flunky couldn't hack it in American Idol, I should care?

They are wasting space in my paper for this crap.

Why do you think that show gets such high ratings? Because early in the season, the best and worst singers are singled out for the highlight(lowlight?)reel. My condolences to Ms. Cohen's family.
