Just what we need. More Hollywood wannabes running around town like they own it. They wont get anything right. The story will not even remotely reflect what life was like for the miners who built this town. There was a lot of blood lost in our mines and I am not too fond of the Hollywood types trying to make it glamerous. Stay in Hollywood!

sick.. 20 million dollars is not hollywood wannabees, it's a real budget unlike the films you are used to in the region. And by the way it's not hollywood, the entire crew will be from new york. I know, I have worked on 50 major motion pictures and television programs and I live in Chazy. Is Chazy Hollywood?

Look at the revenue that will be coming in for restaurants, hotels and gas stations and alot of other things that the film crew will need. A 20 million dollar budget is great-some of that will go inot the pockets of hard working Adirondackers whom will be preparing for a long hard winter. Let them come

You're putting down Hollywood, how does that differ from HELLywood wannabes. What do you want to be? You sound bitter. Oh, and by the way, who are the other Hollywood wannabe types running around that you're rferring to?

Starving artists

Heard these people aren't doing anything at this point in time. Maybe they're starving artists who need to pay mortgages, it's a possibility. These movie people took money from locals by staging a local fundraising event to get the money they need. If they had 20 million why would they need to take from locals? It's sad, because our locals may have been taken and will never get that money back unless they have a lawyer handling it that took the right steps to protect them. Funny thing is, did some research and the director who's not Spielberg and not a name, lives in a nice home in L.A. This is not a studio film folks where there's a big pay-off, it's an independent project that even if it's good, would probably not make enough money to give back to the people who gave, let alone make a profit. Just something to ponder.Be careful.

I think that first I would like to read a book about how life actually was here during the mining heyday. I've heard stories, but stories vary from person to person and at this point, there are fewer and fewer old timers left that rememeber details.
It's hard to picture Moriah during that period. One of my friends had moved here briefly from West Virginia years ago and as he rolled through Witherbee (this was around 1986-87), he commented on how much the place reminded him of the coal towns in West Virginia, right down to the company houses.
You have to admit that the story of mining in the Adirondacks would be quite the epic. It dominated decades and made quite a few fortunes at the expense of more than a few lives.
But, this is a forgotten part of a decaying state. I doubt that the stories from here will ever become something masterful. I doubt that the stories from here will ever get told. A whole generation silenced by time.

Can't remember what grade I did and interview with Bill Maholic who was in his eighties at the time. I think it was 6th 7th or eight grade, so that would have been in the mid 70's. He lived in the last house on bridal road in witherbee. Old friend of the family can't remember what he did in the mines but I recorded the coversation on cassette tape. Wish I would have saved it. My great grandfather Jackson was the paymaster for along time during the forties, fifties, and sixties. He died before intelligent conversation toke place. Would have benn intersting.

My Grandfather Frank Blaise was killed in a mine accident in the late 1930's. Bet there were a lot of them killed up there we dont even know about. Still a dangerous job.

My dad Robert (Bob) Blaise talked about a Frank Blaise that was a distant cousin was he a desendant? I went to school with Barb Blaise Brenda was one year younger and Mike went to school with my sister Roberta (Bobby) at Moriah. I think the grandson of this Maholick was a second grade teatcher for a while. I left and retired from the army and only went back home a couple of times so I'm not sure about much. But I used to ride motorcycles and hepl make those trails that are now used for four wheelers all over the area to include the back one we used to take to licoln pond from witherbee to mineville to westport to the damn on the pond. Wow talk about flash backs i gotta have a couple of beers on this one. Aloha

Mineville the movie was retitled to "Steeltown."
There were reports earlier in 2008 tha the location would be moved to Boston Massachusetts by Marathon Pictures. Reasons were better financing offers from Massachusettes as well as the large number of movie support businesses to be found in Boston versus the Eastern Adirondacks!
So, a location that looks like Mineville is a seaport called Beantown?!?
Furthermore, many planned actors are no longer listed as cast; the shoot date is now set as late 2009 and the script is reportedly in deep revisions.
So it seems the Town of Moriah has been "shafted" once again!

So it seems the Town of Moriah has been "shafted" once again! Shafted again is right!!! And it doesn't surprise me with Ms. Bailey at the helm! Locals were also shafted the first time around. Getting an Attorney might be a good idea. After all, she took every painful account of my Grandfather's death in the mines and was going to use it for the movie 8 years ago; however, conveniently skipped town on not just us, but a lot of others that contributed emotionally and financially. I DON'T take this lightly and they haven't heard the last from me. Unlike Ms. Bailey, I WILL follow through.
