Over the years I have taken great interest in Melvilles book Typee. I wondered what happened to the lovely Fayaway. In a follow up story I read years ago, but cannot find now, it was said that an acquaintance of Melvilles happened to sail to Nuka Hive a few years later to find the Island devastated by disease. Melvilles friend reported back that Fayaway, and the most of the others had died a horrible death.
Does anyone have any information to back this up? I cannot find this writing any longer. Please help. |
