Jack Cardiff, an Oscar-winning British cinematographer and director who drew inspiration from Rembrandt's use of light and shadow to convey his visions and those of directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, as well as the allure of actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, died Wednesday at his home in Ely, England.

I was saddened to hear of Jack Cardiff's death. I interviewed him for an article that appeared in Image Technology. Jack was a great cinematographer and director and has well and truly earned a top place in cinema history.
