WHAT'S WRONG HERE???

"She shows a little wear and tear in the utter but she's been using it a lot," Harris said of a 10-year-old cow who was named a reserve grand champion during the show.

The same NewsTimes writer believes that "milk comes from the market"

I've gotta say, the fair really doesn't seem to be what it used to. I haven't gone this year because last year was such a letdown. And from what I'm hearing, this year isn't any different. What gives? Lack of imagination or lack of funding?

A bit of both!!!To many people have fallen away from tradition. Just take a look at families today. The new way of the times= trade in a rake and cow for a soccer ball and a mini van!!!Along with daycare and the meme syndrome!!

There needs to be a huge change in the fair. I haven't been back in a long time. I hear that it's the same thing every single year with just different attractions (like the trampoline this year). Why don't they bring in different vendors? Why can't they just do something different? I can tell you this, I won't be back for a while.

I have got an idea, Why don't you volunter to help with the fair next year. Does everyone realize that it is all VOLUNTERS that organize and work this fair, which funds the volunter fire department. You should go for the cause. But seems like you have meme syndrome

The fair is what you make of it. If you're expecting Hollywood-style entertainment, don't bother. If you want a sterile, climate controlled environment, head south to the Danbury Fair Mall (for those who don't know, there used to be an even BIGGER fair there). It's a country fair - expect dust, bring an umbrella and sunscreen (it's outdoors!) and most of all, bring patience and your sense of humor.

Bridgewater Fair is planned and staffed by volunteers - not just from Bridgewater, but from the entire area. Proceeds go to support Bridgewater Fire Department. For many families (including mine), it's a tradition to work at and also support the fair. It's what community is all about. Perhaps if we had more people care about tradition and community, some of the other headlines on this website would disappear.

You are "letdown" and "disappointed" because the fair doesn't live up to your expectations. Perhaps you're setting the bar a bit high for people who don't get paid for the months of planning and preparation that goes into each year's fair. Given the funds available and the size of the fair, you can't expect first rate acts. What you can expect, is to see small bands trying to make it (Brad Paisley performed at the fair years before he became one of country music's most popular male vocalist).

A recent article in the Washington Post explored why, in a recent survey, people from Denmark ranked #1 in happiness, while Americans ranked #16. The whole article can be boiled down to one thing. The Danish people take pleasure in the little things in life. Instead of getting caught up with who has the latest iPhone, they're happy with a well designed lamp or a simple meal together as a family.

Perhaps if we focused more on enjoying life as it happens around us instead of waiting to be entertained (which is what several posts imply), we'd all be happier. The Declaration of Independence states that all men (meaning people) are entitled to the "pursuit of happiness." No where in that document are we, as American citizens, guaranteed "happiness." It's up to us to pursue it.

First off my kids are in college and I work and volunteer at the soup kitchen in Danbury!!Now for the fair I know it runs on the kindness of volunteers and I was just stating an opinion not to many folks are into that kind of farming . Even the farmers market is downsizing. The world is just changing its VALUES..So PLEASE don't even try to start with me on being one of THOSE women who sits at home and eats BON_BONS!! Also if you looked closely at my statement-I was trying to convey the point "To many people are selfish and just want and not to give!!And yes maybe I got off track on the FAIR it was once a wonderful place but like the Danbury Fair it's a thing of the past...

Come on people. Its the Bridgewater Fair. It is what it is. What it always has been. It's fried dough. Its cars stuck in the parking lot being pulled ot by tractors. Its those really yummy milk shake thingies that the 4H kids sell over by the cow barns. Its wondering if the parade is going to happen this year. Its sitting in the rain and sliding through the mud. Its getting that candied apple or snow cone that you have been craving since last year's fair. Is it the same year after year? Maybe... That's what makes it home...

The Dutchess County Fair starts tuesday . It is a nice fair wth tree lined streets and fair food all about. The rides are modern and well kept unlike the other fairs held this weekend. Something about flies swarming arround the roastbeef turns my stomach.(at Bridgewater fair)

What's wrong with soccer? It's not like the kids are sitting home watching tv, playing video games, and not getting exercise and fresh air! Sure it's not working on a farm, but not everyone wants to, nor should they. Soccer is far from the meme syndrome. It's besides exercise, it involves teaching children to be part of something, a team.

Too bad you're so tied up in being a stay at home mom you can't even see a productive, positive experience right in front of your eyes.

I've volunteered at the fair many years ago. I got to the tent I was working at, and stayed the whole weekend long-not leaving once. My friends and family would stop by, but I wouldn't leave. And did I EVER get a thank you from the fire department? No. I would have to babysit kids who were trying to make change and couldn't do it! Thank god for some honest people out there who told the kids they got the wrong change! And the drinking that goes on behind the tents in unreal. A lot of beer gets drank every third weekend in August. So much for being a dry town!

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Taurus

You have a very high opinion of someone today. In fact, you're really impressed with them and you'll probably sing their praises to anyone who'll listen. If you meet someone for the first time now, you'll be very impressed and this will never change throughout your relationship. But try not to idealize them into something they're not.
