Judas Priest takes long ride into Spinal Tap territory

As the saying goes, opinions vary. I happen to think the album is pretty damn entertaining myself. A lot of the guitar work is self-referential on this album (in a fashion similar to the lyrics on Angel of Retribution). This really isnt't so much a departure as it is a homecoming.

This is the same band that recorded "Run of the MIll" on Rocka Rolla, and the same band that recorde songs like "Raw Deal" and "Victim of Changes" but just with a much higher budget and the benefit of 30 extra years of practice on their instruments.

I also think this is probably Rob's finest total album, the banshee wails, while still present are becoming a bit more rare, but overall his control and expression are dead-on. He isn't just a thrower anymore, he's really learned to pitch.

Funny, when I put on the "Angel of Retribution" CD, I usually cut right to "Lochness". Hardly a down note, "Lochness" is unabashedly over-the-top in it's lyrics and plodding riffs. Judas Priest writes about fantastic characters all the time. "Lochness" is the masterpiece of all in that style.

From the day Judas Priest announced their intention to do a concept album based on Nonstradamus, I've heard references to Spinal Tap. A few of the initial reviews after the release of Nostradamus almost a month ago conjured up the comparisons to Spinal Tap. Couldn't you come up with something more original than a Spinal Tap reference (not once, but twice !) in your article? Quite simply it is redundant, dated an unimaginative. Those journalism classes really paid off, didn't they?

This is just a great classic Metal album. I also think Halford has never sounded better and the band as well.

Hay there. JP are damn good on that album, agree! Metal gods 100%... They are truly great to me since 1985, when I-ve been able first time to heard their excellent Screaming for Vengeance.
And I will NEVER forget Priests amazing concert in Ljubljana (1990-1991).
I hope that will be the new album of AC/DC the same or even greater nice suprise, lol.

My faves on this double CD are Prophecy, War! and Daeth. We saw Priest here in Kansas City on Friday, August 1st. GREAT SHOW! The set was cut down by 2 tracks due to the concert being a b-day bash for a local clown of a rock DJ, but was fun nonetheless. Price was right-$25! I can't stand the 47 bands on ONE bill though, give me TWO bands so we can see a full SHOW!!!!
Can't wait to see Heaven and Hell AND Judas Priest on the same bill in Phoenix soon. Keep rockin' with PRIEST!!!!
